Overview

State Bank of India has issued the recruitment notification for Probationary Officers (PO) 2026 under Advertisement No. CRPD/PO/2026-27/09. The recruitment process will be conducted in three phases, and call letters for Pre-Examination Training, Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, Psychometric Test, Group Exercise and Interview will be made available online through the SBI careers portal. No call letter or acquaint-yourself booklet will be sent by post.

A total of 1,500 Probationary Officer vacancies have been notified. Eligible graduates from any discipline can apply, and selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India.

Application Fee

The fee is non-refundable and must be paid online through debit card, credit card, Internet Banking or UPI. Any transaction charges are payable by the candidate.

Age Limit

The age limit is 21 to 30 years as on 01/04/2026. Candidates must have been born not later than 01/04/2005 and not earlier than 02/04/1996, both dates inclusive.

Cumulative age relaxation is not permitted. Candidates claiming relaxation must produce the required certificates during the Group Exercise or Interview, if shortlisted.

Vacancy Details

PwBD Horizontal Vacancies

PwBD reservation is horizontal and includes Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired, Locomotor Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder-Mild, Mental Illness and Multiple Disabilities, as specified in the notification. The vacancies are provisional and may change according to the Bank's requirements.

Eligibility / Qualification

Candidates must possess graduation in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government. Candidates with qualifications such as Engineering, Medicine, Chartered Accountancy or Cost Accountancy are also eligible.

Candidates in the final year or final semester of graduation may apply provisionally, subject to producing proof of passing the graduation examination on or before 30/09/2026, if called for interview. Candidates holding an Integrated Dual Degree certificate must have passed the IDD on or before 30/09/2026.

The date of passing will be considered as the date shown on the mark sheet or provisional certificate issued by the university or institute. If the result is published on the university website, the date certified by the competent university authority will be considered.

Admit Card Details

SBI will release separate online call letters for the following stages:

• Pre-Examination Training
• Preliminary Examination
• Main Examination
• Psychometric Test
• Group Exercise and Interview

Candidates must download the relevant call letter by entering their registration number and password or date of birth on the SBI careers website. The Preliminary Examination call letter is expected from the 2nd or 3rd week of July 2026 onwards. The call letters will not be sent in hard copy by post.

At the Main Examination, shortlisted candidates must bring the following documents:

• Authenticated original Preliminary Examination call letter
• Authenticated copy of the photo identity proof used during the Preliminary Examination
• Main Examination call letter
• Other documents specified in the call letter and acquaint-yourself booklet

The Preliminary Examination call letter will not be collected at the examination venue. It will be checked, authenticated and stamped by the examination centre staff, and candidates must retain it safely for the Main Examination.

Candidates must also carry two additional photographs matching the photograph pasted on the call letter. Candidates reporting without a photograph pasted on the call letter and without two additional photographs will not be permitted to appear in the Preliminary Examination.

Documents Required at the Examination Centre

Candidates must bring one original photo identity proof along with a self-attested photocopy. Acceptable identity documents include:

• Passport
• Aadhaar Card
• PAN Card
• Driving Licence
• Voter Identity Card
• Bank Passbook with an attested photograph
• Identity card issued by a school or college
• Identity certificate issued by a Gazetted Officer on official letterhead

The photocopy of the identity proof must be submitted along with the call letter. Candidates may be denied entry if the identity document is not produced or if there is any doubt regarding identity.

Exam Pattern

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination is an online objective test. There will be no sectional cut-off in the Preliminary Examination. Approximately 10 times the number of category-wise vacancies will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Phase-II: Main Examination

Objective Test

Descriptive Paper

The Main Examination carries a total of 230 marks. Descriptive answers must be typed on the computer immediately after the objective test.

There is a penalty for wrong answers in the objective tests of both the Preliminary and Main Examinations. One-fourth of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for every incorrect answer. No penalty will apply to an unanswered question.

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted in three phases:

1. Phase-I: Online Preliminary Examination
2. Phase-II: Online Main Examination consisting of objective and descriptive tests
3. Phase-III: Psychometric Test, Group Exercise and Personal Interview

The Psychometric Test is conducted for personality profiling, and its findings may be placed before the Interview panel. All questions in the Psychometric Test are mandatory.

Candidates must qualify separately in Phase-II and Phase-III. Preliminary Examination marks will not be added to the final merit list. Main Examination marks and Phase-III marks will be normalized as follows:

The final merit list will be prepared by aggregating the normalized marks of the Main Examination and Phase-III. Approximately three times the category-wise vacancies may be shortlisted for Phase-III, subject to the qualifying conditions prescribed by the Bank.

Number of Chances

Appearing in the Main Examination counts as one chance, while appearing in the Preliminary Examination does not count as a chance. Candidates who have already used the maximum permissible chances are not eligible to apply.

Scribe and Compensatory Time

Candidates with a disability of 40% or more and physical limitations affecting writing may use a scribe, subject to the prescribed conditions. The request to use a scribe must be indicated in the online application. Eligible candidates are entitled to 20 minutes of compensatory time for every hour of examination, whether or not they use a scribe.

The candidate must arrange the scribe at their own cost. The scribe must not be a candidate for the same online examination process. Candidates using a scribe must bring the required undertaking, photographs and scribe declaration form. Candidates with specified disabilities below 40% who have difficulty writing may also receive the facility upon producing the required certificate from a competent medical authority.

Examination Instructions

• Candidates must report at the examination or interview centre before the reporting time mentioned in the call letter.
• Candidates arriving after the reporting time will not be allowed to enter.
• Mobile phones, pagers, smart watches, cameras, Bluetooth devices, pen drives and other electronic or storage devices are prohibited at examination, interview and group exercise venues.
• SBI may conduct biometric verification through photograph, thumb impression or iris scan at different stages.
• Candidates must not apply Mehendi, ink, chemicals or other external substances to their hands before biometric verification.
• No request for change of examination centre, date or session will be accepted.
• SBI may cancel or change examination centres and may allot a centre different from the one selected by the candidate.
• Candidates must retain the same photograph used during registration and carry approximately eight copies for later stages.
• Any unfair means, impersonation, misconduct or submission of false information may result in cancellation of candidature and debarment from future SBI examinations.

Salary / Pay Scale

The starting basic pay is ₹48,480, including four advance increments, in the Junior Management Grade Scale-I pay scale of ₹48,480-2,000/7-₹62,480-2,340/2-₹67,160-2,680/7-₹85,920.

The officer will also be eligible for Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, Provident Fund, National Pension System, Leave Fare Concession, medical facilities, lease rental facility and other allowances and benefits as per Bank rules. The approximate initial Cost to Company at the Mumbai centre is ₹21.97 lakh.

Joining and Service Conditions

Selected candidates will complete an online basic banking course before joining. At the time of joining, they must execute a bond of ₹2,00,000 to serve the Bank for a minimum period of three years. The bond may be invoked if the candidate resigns before completing three years of service.

Probationary Officers may remain on probation for two years and will undergo continuous assessment. Candidates meeting the required standards may be confirmed in Junior Management Grade Scale-I. Selected candidates may be posted or transferred anywhere in India, including SBI circles, offices, associates, subsidiaries or other organizations as required by the Bank.
