Opening Overview
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued the notice for the Combined Hindi Translators Examination, 2026 for recruitment to Group B Non-Gazetted posts. The examination covers Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translation Officer, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator, Senior Translator and Senior Translation Officer posts in various Central Government Ministries, Departments and Organizations.
The Computer Based Examination (Paper-I) is tentatively scheduled for August–September 2026. Admission Certificates will be issued online on the SSC and concerned Regional Office websites approximately 2–3 days before the examination.

Admit Card Details
SSC will issue the Admission Certificate for the Computer Based Examination through online mode. Candidates should regularly check https://ssc.gov.in and the website of the concerned SSC Regional Office under whose jurisdiction their selected examination centre falls.
The examination city and centre information is expected to be uploaded approximately 10 days before the examination. The Admission Certificate is generally made available for download approximately 2–3 days before the examination.
Candidates must bring a printout of the Admission Certificate to the examination hall. Candidates who have not completed Aadhaar Based Authentication must also carry the following documents:
- Two recent passport-size colour photographs.
- One original valid photo identity proof containing the date of birth, such as Aadhaar Card, E-Aadhaar printout, Voter ID Card, Driving Licence, PAN Card, Passport, School/College Identity Card, Employer ID Card, Ex-Serviceman Discharge Book or another photo identity card issued by the Central or State Government.
- An additional original document showing the date of birth if the photo identity card does not contain the date of birth.
- Medical certificate, undertaking and photocopy of the scribe’s photo identity proof, wherever applicable for PwBD/PwD candidates using a scribe.
Candidates who could not undergo Aadhaar Based Authentication must report at the examination centre two hours before the scheduled commencement of the examination. A mismatch between the date of birth in the Admission Certificate and the identity or date-of-birth document may result in denial of entry.

The total number of vacancies is 84 on a tentative basis. Updated post-wise and category-wise vacancies will be published by SSC on its website. State-wise and zone-wise vacancies are not collected by the Commission.
Age Limit
The prescribed age limit is 18 to 30 years as on 01/08/2026. Candidates must have been born between 02/08/1996 and 01/08/2008, inclusive.
Age relaxation is available as follows:

The date of birth entered in the application must match the Matriculation or Secondary Examination Certificate. No subsequent change in the date of birth will be accepted.
Eligibility / Qualification
Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translation Officer and Junior Translator
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree from a recognized university in any one of the following combinations:
- Master’s degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject, or English as the medium of examination at degree level.
- Master’s degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or Hindi as the medium of examination at degree level.
- Master’s degree in a subject other than Hindi or English with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject, or English as the medium of examination at degree level.
- Master’s degree in a subject other than Hindi or English with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level.
- Master’s degree in any other subject with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects, or with one language as the medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level.
In addition, the candidate must possess a recognized diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, or have two years of translation experience in a Central or State Government office, including a Government of India undertaking.
Senior Hindi Translator, Senior Translator and Senior Translation Officer
Candidates must fulfil the prescribed Master’s degree requirements in Hindi, English or another subject with the required Hindi-English combination as specified for the junior translator posts.
In addition, candidates must possess a recognized diploma or certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, or have three years of translation experience in a Central or State Government office, including a Government of India undertaking.
The required educational qualification must have been acquired by 01/08/2026. Candidates must produce original educational, translation and experience certificates during Document Verification.
Exam Pattern
The examination consists of two papers:

Paper-I has a total duration of 2 hours, with a separate one-hour timer for General Hindi and General English. Candidates eligible to use a scribe receive 2 hours and 40 minutes, with a sectional timer of 1 hour 20 minutes for each part.
Paper-II is of two hours. Candidates eligible for a scribe receive 2 hours and 40 minutes.
There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer in Paper-I. Marks may be normalized where Paper-I is conducted in multiple shifts.
Syllabus Details
Paper-I
Questions are designed to test candidates’ understanding of Hindi and English languages and literature, correct use of words, phrases and idioms, and the ability to write both languages correctly, precisely and effectively. The level of questions is equivalent to the degree level.
Paper-II
Paper-II contains:
- One passage for translation from Hindi to English.
- One passage for translation from English to Hindi.
- One essay in Hindi.
- One essay in English.
The paper tests translation ability, writing skills and comprehension of both languages. The standard is consistent with the prescribed educational qualifications.
Selection Process
- Computer Based Examination, Paper-I.
- Shortlisting of candidates, category-wise, for Paper-II on the basis of Paper-I marks.
- Descriptive Paper-II consisting of translation and essay.
- Final merit and tentative allocation based on Paper-I, Paper-II and post/department preferences.
- Document Verification by the concerned User Department or Organization.
- Verification of educational qualification, category, translation experience and other certificates.
The minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for all other categories. For final merit, Paper-I carries 50% weightage and Paper-II carries 100% weightage. Candidates must submit their post and department preferences within the prescribed period; options once submitted will be treated as final.
Scribe and Compensatory Time Facility
Eligible PwBD/PwD candidates may opt for a scribe or assistive technology in accordance with the notice. A scribe must complete One-Time Registration and Aadhaar authentication on the SSC website. The qualification of an own scribe must be one level below the qualification of the candidate.
Eligible candidates receive compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination. Candidates using their own scribe must carry the prescribed undertaking, medical certificate wherever applicable, and the scribe’s original photo identity proof.
Examination Centres
Candidates may select any three examination centres anywhere in India in order of priority. No request for a change of examination centre will be accepted later. Centres are available under the Central, Eastern, Karnataka Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, North Eastern, Northern, North Western, Southern and Western Regions of SSC.
Important Examination Instructions
- Only one application is permitted during the normal application period.
- Candidates must complete the new One-Time Registration on https://ssc.gov.in. OTR generated on the old SSC website will not work on the new website.
- Candidates should use an active mobile number and email address for Commission communications.
- The live photograph must be captured through the application module with a clear frontal view, good lighting and a plain background.
- Candidates must not wear a cap, mask or spectacles while capturing the live photograph.
- The scanned signature must be uploaded in JPEG/JPG format and should generally be 10–20 KB in size.
- Candidates must not write their name, mobile number, address or other personal identification inside the Paper-II answer book. Violation may lead to zero marks.
- Mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, wireless devices, spy cameras and other electronic gadgets are prohibited in the examination hall.
- Final selection carries All India Service Liability, and selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India.
- Document Verification will be conducted by the User Departments after declaration of the final result.
Salary / Pay Scale
- Junior Translation Officer, Junior Hindi Translator and Junior Translator: Pay Level 6, ₹35,400–₹1,12,400.
- Senior Hindi Translator, Senior Translator and Senior Translation Officer: Pay Level 7, ₹44,900–₹1,42,400.
Allowances and other service benefits will be admissible according to Central Government rules.
Answer Key and Result Information
The tentative answer key of Paper-I will be published on the SSC website after the examination. Candidates may submit online representations within the period specified by the Commission by paying ₹50 per question, which is non-refundable. The final answer key will be uploaded after declaration of the Computer Based Examination result and will be used for processing the result.
There is no provision for re-evaluation or re-checking of scores. Candidates selected for appointment will remain on probation for two years and may be required to undergo prescribed training or examinations.
