DRI Seizes 76 kg of Suspected Methamphetamine in Assam and Mizoram

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), assisted by Assam Rifles personnel in one operation, seized a total of 76 kg of tablets suspected to be methamphetamine in two intelligence-led operations in Assam and Mizoram. Two persons were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The seizures took place in Assam and Mizoram during operations on 18 August 2026 and 25 August 2026.
In Assam, DRI officers and personnel of the 38th Battalion, Assam Rifles, intercepted a 12-wheeler truck near Lalpani, close to the Assam-Manipur border, and seized 56 kg of tablets.
In Mizoram, DRI officers recovered 20 kg of tablets from a car intercepted on the Aizawl–Champhai Road.
The suspected contraband was concealed in specially fabricated cavities in both vehicles.
Two vehicle occupants or drivers were arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985.
The Mizoram operation indicated that the drugs had been smuggled from Myanmar through the Zokhawthar–Champhai sector.
Methamphetamine is described as a psychotropic substance notified under the NDPS Act, 1985.
