The examination fee is payable separately for each class group if a candidate applies for more than one group: Classes 1–5, Classes 6–8, Classes 9–10 and Classes 11–12. Bank charges may be applicable. Candidates who do not provide their Aadhaar number as an identity document in the online application must pay the additional biometric fee of ₹200.
Age Limit
The age limit is calculated as on 01/08/2026 for minimum age and as on 01/08/2024 for maximum age.
- For teachers of Classes 1–5 and 6–8: minimum age 18 years.
- For teachers of Classes 9–10 and 11–12: minimum age 21 years.
- Unreserved male candidates: maximum 37 years.
- Unreserved female candidates: maximum 40 years.
- BC/EBC male and female candidates: maximum 40 years.
- SC/ST male and female candidates: maximum 42 years.
- Transgender candidates: maximum 42 years.
- Departmental and government employees may receive age relaxation up to 60 years, subject to the applicable rules.
- Additional relaxation is available for eligible persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen and other categories according to Bihar Government rules and the notification.

The vacancies include reservation for Unreserved, EWS, EBC, BC, BC Women, SC and ST categories. Horizontal reservation is also provided for women, persons with benchmark disabilities, transgender candidates and eligible dependants of freedom fighters as per the applicable rules. The notification includes subject-wise and category-wise vacancy tables.
Eligibility / Qualification
Classes 1–5: Primary School Teacher
Candidates must fulfil the applicable combination of academic and teacher-training qualifications, including one of the following broad routes:
- Senior Secondary or equivalent with minimum required marks and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, including D.El.Ed.
- Senior Secondary or equivalent with a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
- Senior Secondary or equivalent with a two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education), where recognised.
- Graduation with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- A valid qualification recognised by NCTE and the applicable teacher eligibility qualification.
- For Urdu posts, recognised Urdu qualifications such as Alim or graduation in Urdu may be required.
- For Bangla posts, Intermediate with Bangla or graduation in Bangla from a recognised institution may be accepted as specified in the notification.
Candidates must also have qualified CTET Paper-I or BTET Paper-I, as applicable. The teacher eligibility requirement may be relaxed for candidates appointed before the relevant cut-off dates as provided in the notification.
Classes 6–8: Middle School Teacher
Candidates must possess a recognised graduation degree and an eligible teacher-training qualification, such as:
- Graduation with a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
- Graduation or post-graduation with minimum required marks and B.Ed.
- Graduation with minimum required marks and a one-year B.Ed. recognised under applicable NCTE standards.
- Senior Secondary with minimum required marks and a four-year integrated B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. or B.El.Ed. qualification, as applicable.
- B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Electronics or an equivalent recognised qualification with B.Ed., wherever accepted for the concerned subject.
Candidates must have qualified CTET Paper-II or BTET Paper-II, as applicable. Subject-specific requirements apply for Mathematics and Science, Social Science, Hindi, English, Sanskrit and Urdu teachers.
Classes 9–10: Secondary School Teacher
Candidates must generally possess:
- A graduation or post-graduation degree with at least 50% marks in the concerned subject or subject group, along with B.Ed. from a recognised institution; or
- Graduation or post-graduation with at least 45% marks and B.Ed. under the applicable NCTE regulations; or
- A four-year integrated B.A.Ed., B.Sc.Ed. or B.El.Ed. qualification in the relevant subject group; or
- Another equivalent qualification recognised under the applicable NCTE rules.
Candidates for Classes 9–10 must qualify STET Paper-I. Subject combinations are prescribed for Mathematics, Science and Social Science. For example, Mathematics may include Mathematics, Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Statistics at graduation level, while Science may include Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Biotechnology or Microbiology. Social Science candidates must have studied the prescribed combinations involving History, Geography, Economics and Political Science.
For language subjects, the concerned language must have been studied at graduation level as a principal, honours or subsidiary subject. Separate qualifications apply to Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, Dance and special education posts.
Classes 11–12: Higher Secondary School Teacher
Candidates must generally possess:
- A post-graduate degree with at least 50% marks in the concerned subject and B.Ed. from a recognised institution; or
- A post-graduate degree with at least 45% marks and B.Ed. under the applicable NCTE regulations; or
- A recognised four-year integrated B.A.Ed., B.Sc.Ed. or equivalent qualification; or
- A post-graduate degree with minimum required marks and a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. qualification, wherever applicable.
Candidates must qualify STET Paper-II. The prescribed subject groups include:

For Computer Science, Agriculture, Music and Commerce posts, separate subject-specific qualifications are prescribed. Candidates for Computer Science may qualify through recognised degrees such as M.C.A., M.Sc. Computer Science, B.E./B.Tech. in Computer Science or Information Technology, or other qualifications listed in the notification. B.Ed. is not mandatory for certain Computer Science qualifications where specifically exempted.
Teacher Eligibility and Marks Relaxation
The minimum qualifying marks for educational and teacher-training qualifications may be relaxed by 5% for eligible SC, ST, EBC, BC and disabled candidates. Qualifications must be issued by recognised boards, universities or institutions. NIOS D.El.Ed. qualifications are subject to the court directions and conditions mentioned in the notification.
Selection Process
- Preliminary Competitive Examination.
- Main Competitive Examination for shortlisted candidates.
- Document verification and verification of educational, training, teacher eligibility and category certificates.
- Final merit list and recommendation for appointment.
There will be no interview. The preliminary examination is used for shortlisting candidates for the main examination. The Commission may conduct the examination in more than one phase depending on the number of candidates.

The preliminary examination includes general knowledge, current affairs, Indian and Bihar history, geography, major rivers and geographical features of Bihar, Indian polity and economy, post-independence Bihar, national movements, Bihar’s contribution to national movements and general mental ability.
Candidates must select one option for every question. Option E is to be selected when the candidate does not want to answer the question. Failure to mark any option may also attract one-third negative marking.
Main Examination
The main examination is objective and carries 150 marks with a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. Negative marking of one-third mark is applicable for each incorrect answer, and the five-option answering system is used.

For Classes 1–5, the paper generally contains Language Part-I of 30 questions and General Studies Part-II of 120 questions. For Classes 6–8, 9–10 and 11–12, the paper generally contains Language Part-I of 30 questions, General Studies Part-II of 40 questions and Subject Part-III of 80 questions.
The language section tests practical knowledge of English and Hindi/Urdu/Bangla, as applicable, and requires at least 30% marks. Main examination subjects are based on the relevant SCERT/NCERT curriculum and the minimum qualification level prescribed for the post.

Other allowances will be payable according to the rules of the Government of Bihar.
Reservation and Certificate Requirements
- Reservation benefits are available only to eligible Bihar residents, subject to the applicable rules.
- Candidates claiming SC/ST reservation must submit caste and permanent residence certificates.
- BC/EBC candidates must submit a valid non-creamy-layer certificate issued by the competent authority.
- EWS candidates must submit the prescribed income and asset certificate valid on the relevant date.
- Persons with benchmark disabilities must submit the prescribed disability certificate issued by the competent medical authority. A 4% horizontal reservation is provided for eligible persons with benchmark disabilities.
- Candidates claiming transgender reservation must submit the required Bihar domicile and transgender certificate issued by the competent authority.
- Candidates claiming freedom fighter dependant reservation must submit the prescribed certificate.
- Candidates claiming age relaxation as government employees, Panchayati Raj employees, municipal employees or ex-servicemen must submit the relevant certificate.
- Candidates employed under the Central Government, Bihar Government or another State Government must submit a No Objection Certificate where required.
Important Instructions
- Only one online application is to be submitted for candidates applying under more than one teaching level, subject to the eligibility conditions in the notification.
- Candidates may provide preferences for up to 38 districts for district-wise allocation, as available for the concerned subject and post.
- The application will be evaluated on the basis of self-declared educational, training, teacher eligibility, experience and reservation details, followed by document verification.
- Candidates must keep the submitted application form, payment receipt, application number, application ID, bar code and e-Admit Card safely.
- The latest photograph, Hindi and English signatures, educational certificates, teacher eligibility certificates, caste, domicile, disability, EWS, experience and other applicable certificates may be required during verification.
- Applications submitted after the prescribed deadline, incomplete applications, applications with incorrect information or applications without successful final submission may be rejected.
- There is no provision for re-evaluation after publication of the provisional result.
Official Application Portals
The online application process requires One Time Registration (OTR) through the BPSC online portal. Candidates must use a valid mobile number and email ID and may use DigiLocker for document-related services. The profile creation process includes personal information, address information, other information, qualification information, experience information, photo and signature upload, and profile locking.
