CSIR has invited online applications for Assistant Section Officer (ASO) recruitment 2026 with 100 vacancies. Only non-recommended candidates of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 with a university degree can apply online from 23/06/2026 to 13/07/2026.

Eligibility / Qualification

Candidates must fulfill both conditions:

  • Must possess a University Degree.
  • Must be a non-recommended candidate of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 (CSE-2024) as per list/details available on the UPSC Pratibha Setu Portal.

Additional conditions (as per notification):

  • Candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • The qualifying result/degree should be declared on or before the last date of online application.

Selection Process

  1. Screening / Shortlisting based on total marks (Mains + Personality Test) obtained in UPSC CSE-2024.
    • Shortlisting ratio: 1:5 (5 times of total vacancies of ASO in each category, subject to minimum five), tentatively.
  2. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) (Qualifying).
  3. Document Verification.
  4. Final Selection based on UPSC CSE-2024 total marks (Mains + Personality Test) subject to qualifying CPT with minimum threshold marks.

Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)

  • Total Marks: 100
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Nature: Qualifying only
  • Skills Tested: Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Slide/Presentation generation, typing passage and office-related computer tasks.

Salary / Pay Scale

  • Post Classification: Group B (Non-Gazetted)
  • Pay Level: Level 7 (Cell 1)
  • Pay Scale: ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400
  • Allowances/Benefits: DA, HRA, TA and other Central Government allowances as applicable; medical reimbursement, LTC, House Building Advance etc. as per CSIR rules.
  • Pension: New Pension System (NPS) applicable w.e.f. 01/01/2004 (with applicable provisions for candidates coming from eligible organizations having Govt. pension pattern as per rules mentioned in notification).
