IIT BHU has announced 55 vacancies for Junior Superintendent, Junior Technician, Junior Library Assistant, Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineer and Junior Translation Officer posts. Online applications will be accepted from 25 August to 24 September 2026 through the SAMARTH Portal.

One seat is reserved for a PwBD candidate against the Junior Superintendent post and one seat is reserved for a PwBD candidate in the Technical Cadre, as specified in the advertisement.

Eligibility / Qualification

1. Junior Superintendent — Post Code 26118

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized university with at least 55% marks.
  • Either 3 years of relevant experience in Pay Level 5 or equivalent, or 8 years of relevant experience in Pay Level 3 or above in Central Government, State Government, autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings or research organizations.
  • Proficiency in computer office applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is compulsory.
  • Desirable: Higher Degree or PG Diploma in a relevant discipline such as Human Resources, Labour Laws or Financial Management, or qualifications such as ICWA/CA.

2. Junior Technician, Group I — Post Code 26119

Branches: Chemistry and Physics

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Chemistry or Physics as one of the subjects.
  • Minimum 55% marks in the qualifying degree from a recognized university or institute.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent computer office applications is compulsory.

3. Junior Technician, Group II — Post Code 26120

Branches: Mechanical, Metallurgical, Ceramic and Materials Science

Candidates must have either:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Ceramic or Materials Science with at least 55% marks; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Engineering or equivalent in the relevant branch after 10+2 with at least 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent computer office applications is compulsory.

4. Junior Technician, Group III — Post Code 26121

Branches: Electrical and Electronics

Candidates must have either:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent in Electrical or Electronics with at least 55% marks; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Engineering or equivalent in Electrical or Electronics after 10+2 with at least 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent computer office applications is compulsory.

5. Junior Technician, Group IV — Post Code 26122

Branches: Civil, Architecture, Planning and Design, and Mining

Candidates must have either:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent in Civil or Mining, or Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) with at least 55% marks; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Engineering or equivalent in Civil or Mining after 10+2 with at least 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent computer office applications is compulsory.

6. Junior Technician, Group V — Post Code 26123

Branches: Computer Science and Engineering, and CCIS

Candidates must have either:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent in Computer Science or Information Technology with at least 55% marks; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Engineering or equivalent in Computer Science or Information Technology after 10+2 with at least 55% marks and one year of relevant experience.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent computer office applications is compulsory.

7. Junior Library Assistant — Post Code 26124

Candidates must have any one of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science with 55% marks; or
  • Diploma in Library and Information Science with 55% marks along with a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline; or
  • Two-year integrated degree in Master of Library and Information Science with 55% marks.

Desirable: Hands-on experience in computer applications in a reputed library.

8. Assistant Engineer — Post Code 26125

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree holders must have at least 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Diploma holders must have at least 8 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • The relevant experience must be at Pay Level 6 or above.

9. Junior Engineer — Post Code 26126

Candidates must have either:

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Civil Engineering with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade on a 10-point scale and a minimum of 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience; or
  • Three-year Diploma in Civil Engineering with 55% marks from a Government-recognized polytechnic and a minimum of 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience.

10. Junior Translation Officer — Post Code 26127

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hindi.
  • Three years of relevant experience in translation of technical and non-technical content from English to Hindi and Hindi to English after obtaining the qualifying degree.
  • Experience must be from Central Government, State Government, autonomous bodies, public sector undertakings or research organizations.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from English to Hindi and vice versa.
  • Knowledge of operating Hindi application software packages on computers.
  • Experience in translating technical and scientific documents.

Selection Process

The Institute may conduct one or more of the following stages, depending on the post and the number of applications received:

  1. Screening or shortlisting based on qualification, experience and merit.
  2. Written Test or Screening Test, wherever prescribed.
  3. Presentation or Group Discussion, wherever applicable.
  4. Personal Interview.
  5. Document Verification and verification of eligibility, experience and category certificates.

Mere fulfilment of the minimum eligibility conditions does not guarantee a call for the selection process. The Institute may apply more stringent shortlisting criteria and may call only the required number of candidates. The schedule of the selection stages will be communicated to shortlisted candidates through their registered email address. No separate hard-copy call letter will be sent.

The posts carry pay levels under the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix as follows:

The selected candidates will also receive usual allowances admissible under IIT (BHU) rules for the corresponding Pay Matrix. Appointments may be made on regular terms with a probation period, subject to Institute norms.

Important Instructions

  • Applications must be submitted through the SAMARTH Portal only. Applications submitted through any other mode will not be accepted.
  • After successful online submission, candidates must send a printout of the submitted application form along with self-attested supporting documents in a sealed envelope by Speed Post to The Registrar, IIT (BHU), Varanasi – 221005.
  • The envelope must mention the application form number, advertisement number, post name and post code.
  • The printed application form should be preserved for future reference and may be required during document verification or interview.
  • Government, semi-government, autonomous body and educational institution employees must upload a No Objection Certificate and vigilance clearance. Such candidates may otherwise be required to produce these documents at the interview stage.
  • SC, ST and OBC candidates must submit certificates in the prescribed Government of India format. OBC candidates applying under the reserved category must submit a non-creamy-layer certificate issued by the competent authority and not older than six months.
  • Eligibility and shortlisting conditions will be assessed as on 24/09/2026.
  • No correction or modification will be permitted after final submission of the online application.
  • Experience certificates must be submitted in the prescribed format given in Annexure A.
  • Candidates should provide an active email address and regularly check the Institute website and registered email for recruitment updates.
  • The Institute reserves the right to increase or decrease vacancies, postpone or cancel the recruitment, or offer a post on a contractual basis depending on the circumstances and applicable rules.
  • Recruitment-related disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of courts having jurisdiction over Varanasi.

Experience Certificate

Candidates claiming experience must use the format provided in Annexure A. The certificate should be issued on the letterhead of the organization or competent issuing authority and should clearly mention the organization, post held, period of service, nature of appointment, field of experience, pay level, duties performed, place of posting and nature of work.
