IIT Madras Recruitment 2026 - GATE 2027 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)

IIT Madras has released the GATE 2027 Information Brochure. Online registration is open from 14/08/2026 to 21/09/2026 (extended with late fee up to 30/09/2026). The CBT exam will be held on 06, 07, 13, 14, 20 & 21 February 2027 and results will be announced on 19/03/2027.

Payment Mode: Online only (UPI, Debit Card, Credit Card, Wallet, Internet Banking, etc.).

Important Fee Notes:

  • If applying for two test papers, the fee payable is twice the fee of a single paper.
  • Application fee does not include service/processing/bank charges.
  • Fee is not refundable except when a certain two-paper combination is removed (as per brochure).

Age Limit

  • No age limit to appear for GATE 2027.

Eligibility / Qualification

Candidates must satisfy the educational eligibility as per the brochure. Key eligibility points:

  • Candidate currently studying in the 3rd year or higher of any undergraduate degree program OR has already completed any UGC/AICTE approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities is eligible.
  • Candidates currently studying in 5th/6th/7th semester or higher OR already completed M.B.B.S./B.D.S./B.V.Sc./B.Sc. (Agriculture/Horticulture/Forestry) are also eligible.
  • Candidates with Professional Society certifications (equivalent to B.E./B.Tech./B.Arch.) recognized by MoE/UPSC/AICTE are eligible (completed Section A or equivalent).
  • Candidates pursuing/holding a higher degree than the listed minimum are also eligible.

Marking & Negative Marking

  • Questions carry 1 mark or 2 marks.
  • Negative marking only for MCQ:
    • 1-mark MCQ: 1/3 mark deducted for wrong answer
    • 2-mark MCQ: 2/3 mark deducted for wrong answer
  • No negative marking for MSQ and NAT.
  • No partial marking for any question.

Salary / Pay Scale

Not applicable (GATE is an examination; it is used for admissions/scholarship and also by some PSUs/organizations for recruitment as per their rules).
