Age Limit

The Indian Army may notify and manage combined vacancies according to its operational and administrative requirements. Shortlisting, selection and preparation of the merit list will depend on the notified vacancies and applications received for this course.
Eligibility / Qualification
Nationality
Candidates must fulfil one of the following nationality conditions:
- Citizen of India.
- Subject of Nepal.
- Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, subject to the eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.
- The eligibility certificate is not required for Gorkha subjects of Nepal.
Educational Qualification
- Candidates must possess an LLB degree with at least 55% aggregate marks.
- The LLB degree may be a three-year professional degree after graduation or a five-year degree after the 10+2 examination.
- Candidates must have appeared in CLAT PG 2026, conducted in December 2025.
- CLAT PG 2026 score is mandatory for all candidates, including LLM-qualified candidates and candidates appearing for LLM.
- Only the CLAT PG 2026 examination conducted in December 2025 is valid for this entry. Scores from any other CLAT PG examination will not be accepted.
- Candidates must be eligible for registration as an advocate with the Bar Council of India or a State Bar Council.
- The LLB degree must be from a college or university recognised by the Bar Council of India.
- Candidates must hold the LLB degree and marksheets at the time of application.
- CLAT PG 2026 result must be verified at the Selection Centre before the SSB interview. Failure to verify the result will lead to cancellation of candidature and the candidate will not be eligible for SSB.
- There is no provision for submission of offline applications.
Marital Status
Applications are invited only from unmarried male and unmarried female candidates. Candidates must remain unmarried throughout the training period at OTA, Chennai. A candidate who marries after applying or during training will not be eligible to continue training and may be required to refund the expenditure incurred by the Government.
Selection Process
The selection process consists of the following stages:
- Online application.
- Shortlisting of applications based on vacancies and the call-up ratio, with CLAT PG score being used for shortlisting.
- Selection of SSB Centre and date by shortlisted candidates on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Five-day SSB interview conducted through a two-stage selection process.
- Medical examination of candidates recommended after Stage II of SSB.
- Preparation of the merit list based on SSB marks.
- Issue of joining letter for pre-commission training according to merit, available vacancies and medical fitness.
- Pre-Commission Training at OTA, Chennai.
SSB will be conducted at the Selection Centres located at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh; Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh; Bengaluru, Karnataka; and Jalandhar, Punjab. Candidates who fail Stage I will be returned on the same day. Requests for changing the SSB centre or interview date will not be entertained.
Training Details
- Training academy: Officers Training Academy, Chennai.
- Training duration: 49 weeks.
- Training is scheduled to commence in April 2027.
- Candidates will be detailed for training according to their position in the final merit list and the number of available vacancies.
- The entire training cost is borne by the Government. Candidates withdrawn for personal reasons may be required to refund the training cost at ₹20,482 per week, as applicable in 2026.
- Candidates successfully completing training will be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies by the University of Madras.
- Final allocation of Arms and Services will be made before passing out from OTA.

Candidates will be commissioned as Lieutenants after successful completion of training.

- Cadet stipend during OTA training: ₹56,100 per month.
- Military Service Pay for officers from Lieutenant to Brigadier: ₹15,500 per month.
- Approximate CTC on commissioning: ₹17–18 lakh per annum.
- Dearness Allowance and other admissible allowances will be provided as per applicable Government rules.
- Dress allowance: ₹20,000 per year.
- Transport allowance for Pay Level 10 and above: ₹7,200 plus DA per month in higher TPTA cities and ₹3,600 plus DA per month at other places.
- Children Education Allowance: ₹2,250 per month per child for the first two eldest surviving children, subject to applicable conditions.
- Hostel subsidy: ₹6,750 per month per child for the first two eldest surviving children.
- Cadets receiving stipend are insured under the Army Group Insurance Fund for ₹1.25 crore. The monthly AGIF subscription is ₹12,500, payable in advance.
Commission and Service Conditions
- Type of commission: Short Service Commission.
- Initial tenure: 10 years.
- Maximum tenure: 14 years, including a possible four-year extension.
- Eligible officers may be considered for Permanent Commission in the 10th year according to applicable policies.
- Officers not selected for Permanent Commission may be permitted to continue as Short Service Commission Officers for a total period of 14 years, subject to suitability and service requirements.
- Officers may apply for release after completion of five years, subject to approval by Army Headquarters.
- Release options are available after five years, ten years or completion of the maximum fourteen-year tenure, subject to applicable conditions.
- Officers will remain on probation for six months from the date of commissioning.
- Reserve liability will generally extend for five years, with an additional two years on a voluntary basis, or up to the age of 37 years for women and 40 years for men, whichever is earlier.

Documents Required at SSB
Candidates must carry self-attested copies along with original documents to the Selection Centre:
- Signed application printout with self-attested photograph.
- Matriculation or Secondary School Examination Certificate and marksheet.
- Class 12 certificate and marksheet.
- Graduation degree or provisional degree, where applicable.
- LLB degree or provisional degree.
- Marksheets of all years or semesters.
- Bar Council of India or State Bar Council registration proof, or a certificate from the college or university confirming Bar Council of India recognition of the LLB course.
- University certificate explaining the formula for conversion of CGPA or grades into percentage marks.
- CLAT PG 2026 score card.
- Candidates serving in the Armed Forces must also carry an application intimation countersigned by their Commanding Officer.
Provisional degrees submitted for verification must not be more than six months old as on 01/04/2027 and should have been issued between 01/10/2026 and 01/04/2027. Original certificates must be produced for verification. DigiLocker certificates will not be accepted in place of original certificates unless the issuing institution certifies that only an authenticated electronic certificate has been issued and no physical certificate is available.
Important Instructions
- Only one online application may be submitted by a candidate. Multiple applications will result in cancellation of candidature.
- No changes can be made after the online application closes.
- CGPA and grades must be converted into marks according to the formula prescribed by the concerned university.
- The candidate’s name, parents’ names and date of birth must exactly match the Matriculation or equivalent certificate.
- False information, concealment of facts, ambiguity in documents or submission of incorrect certificates may lead to cancellation at any stage.
- Candidates withdrawn from NDA, IMA, OTA, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or any Service Training Academy on disciplinary grounds are not eligible.
- Candidates debarred by UPSC, previously arrested or convicted by a criminal court, or involved in a criminal case are not eligible.
- Candidates who do not report within seven days of the prescribed reporting date may have their candidature cancelled.
- The English version of the notification will prevail in case of any discrepancy between the English and Hindi versions.
