Opening Overview

Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB), Bhopal has released the recruitment rules and examination notification for the Subedar and Sub Inspector Cadre Selection Examination 2026 under the Madhya Pradesh Police Department. A total of 507 vacancies are available for non-technical and technical Subedar/Sub Inspector posts. Eligible candidates can submit online applications from 09/09/2026 to 23/09/2026.

Application Fee

The candidates qualified for the second-stage written examination will be required to pay a separate departmental processing fee as follows:

MP Online portal charges are ₹60 for applications submitted through an authorised kiosk and ₹20 for applications submitted through a registered citizen user. For each correction, the application correction fee is ₹20 and the portal charge is ₹40.

Payment can be made through online banking, debit card, credit card, or the authorised MP Online kiosk. Offline applications and offline fee payments will not be accepted.

Age Limit

The age will be calculated on the last date of online application, 23/09/2026.

Additional age relaxation may be available to eligible ex-servicemen, retrenched government employees and other categories according to Madhya Pradesh Government rules. Only the maximum applicable relaxation will be granted where more than one relaxation is claimed. Candidates who are not domiciled in Madhya Pradesh can apply only against unreserved open vacancies and will not receive reservation or age-relaxation benefits.

Vacancy Details

Vertical reservation is applicable for UR, OBC, SC, ST and EWS categories. Horizontal reservation includes 35% for women, 15% for eligible Madhya Pradesh Police employees and 10% for ex-servicemen, wherever applicable. The number of vacancies may be increased or decreased according to the actual requirement of the department.

Eligibility / Qualification

Non-Technical Posts

For the posts of Subedar, Sub Inspector (Special Armed Force) and Sub Inspector (District Police Force), candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university.

Technical Posts

• Sub Inspector (Arms): Three-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised technical university.
• Sub Inspector (Photo), Sub Inspector (Q.D.) and Sub Inspector (Finger Print): Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a government-recognised university with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as subjects.

The required educational qualification must have been obtained by the prescribed application eligibility date. Ex-servicemen who have completed at least 15 years of service and possess the prescribed military qualification may be considered against applicable reserved vacancies as per government rules.

Candidates must be Indian citizens. A Madhya Pradesh domicile certificate is mandatory for claiming reservation and state-specific age relaxation. Candidates with more than two living children, where one child was born on or after 26/01/2001, may be ineligible for appointment, subject to the stated government exception.

Post Preference and Technical Groups

Candidates applying for non-technical posts may additionally apply for only one technical group, subject to fulfilling the relevant qualification.

Candidates must enter their post preferences carefully. Final allotment will be made according to merit, preference and departmental requirements. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere within or outside Madhya Pradesh, and home-district posting will not be provided. A minimum of five years of service in the allotted unit is required before eligibility for transfer to another unit.

Selection Process

1. Preliminary Written Examination conducted by MPESB.
2. Main Written Examination.
3. Technical Written Examination for eligible technical posts.
4. Physical Measurement Test and medical fitness assessment.
5. Physical Proficiency Test consisting of 800-metre race, long jump and shot put.
6. Document verification.
7. Personality interview of 50 marks.
8. Character verification and final medical examination.
9. Training after appointment.

The preliminary examination will shortlist candidates separately for non-technical and technical posts. Generally, candidates up to 10 times the advertised vacancies will be called for the main written examination. Candidates up to 3 times the advertised vacancies will be called for the Physical Proficiency Test and interview, subject to the applicable cut-off and tie conditions.

Exam Pattern

Preliminary Written Examination

Subjects include Hindi Language Comprehension, English Language Comprehension, Analytical Ability, History, Geography, Science, Civics, Basic Computer Knowledge, Reasoning and Current Affairs.

Main Written Examination

The main examination will consist of two papers for both non-technical and technical candidates.

Each paper will contain two sections of 150 marks each. Questions left unanswered will not attract negative marking. The papers will be conducted in separate sessions.

Technical Written Examination

The technical paper will contain 100 objective questions. Group 1 will be based on Mechanical Engineering, while Group 2 will be based on Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Physical Standards

Physical Measurement Standards

No relaxation is provided in the minimum physical measurement standards. Candidates must be medically fit, must not have knock knees or flat feet, and must satisfy the prescribed eyesight and colour-vision requirements.

Physical Proficiency Test

The Physical Proficiency Test carries 100 marks:

The minimum qualifying marks in the Physical Proficiency Test are 30 marks for non-technical posts and 20 marks for technical posts. Separate standards are prescribed for male and female candidates, and relaxed standards are available for eligible ex-servicemen and technical-post candidates as specified in the notification. For the shot put event, the prescribed weight is 7.26 kg for males and 4.00 kg for females.

Salary / Pay Scale

During the three-year probation period, stipend will be paid at 70% of the minimum pay in the first year, 80% in the second year and 90% in the third year, along with other admissible allowances and benefits according to government rules. The defined contributory pension system will apply to employees appointed on or after 01/01/2005.

Important Examination Instructions

• Aadhaar registration and Aadhaar-based multi-level biometric verification are mandatory.
• Candidates must carry the downloaded admit card and an original valid photo identity card.
• Valid identity documents include Voter ID, PAN Card, Aadhaar Card, Driving Licence, passport or an officially issued photo-bearing marksheet. E-Aadhaar must be UIDAI verified.
• Candidates must report within the prescribed reporting time. Late entry will not be permitted.
• Candidates must bring a ball-point pen and the required Aadhaar details or photocopy.
• Mobile phones, calculators, electronic watches, Bluetooth devices, log tables, sunglasses, rough sheets, recording devices and other electronic items are prohibited.
• No candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall after the examination begins until it ends.
• All original documents and self-attested photocopies must be produced during document verification.
• Candidates must attend the physical test on the date allotted to them. Requests for changing the physical test date on medical or other grounds will not be accepted.
• Unfair means, impersonation, submission of false information or concealment of facts may result in cancellation of candidature and legal action.

Bonus Marks and Normalisation

Eligible categories specified by the Madhya Pradesh Government, including certain ex-servicemen, dependants of soldiers killed in specified conflicts, surplus government employees, eligible NCC candidates holding a C certificate and certain other notified categories, may receive 5% additional marks in the preliminary examination.

For examinations conducted in multiple shifts, MPESB may use the Normalised Equi-Percentile scaling technique. In the multi-stage examination, the normalised written-examination score may be combined with the Physical Proficiency Test and interview score for preparing the final merit list. The final merit list will be prepared separately for technical and non-technical posts.

Key Terms and Conditions

Selected candidates will be appointed for a three-year probation period and must successfully complete the prescribed police training. Training exemptions are not permitted. Candidates who fail to complete training within the permitted opportunities may be discharged from service. Character verification and medical fitness are mandatory before appointment. Appointment and posting will depend on merit, preference, vacancy position and departmental requirements.
