Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released the Prospectus-cum-Notification for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2027 for admission to Class VI for the academic session 2027-28. Eligible candidates who are bonafide residents of the district and studying in Class V (2026-27) in a recognized school can apply online up to 31/07/2026.

Registration is free of cost through the NVS admission portal.
Age Limit
- Date of Birth must be between 01/05/2015 to 31/07/2017 (both dates inclusive).
- Age verification will be done at the time of admission using a Government-issued Birth Certificate (issued on or before the date of registration/examination).
Vacancy Details
- Seats in Class VI: Up to 80 students per JNV (subject to availability of suitable candidates).
- NVS reserves the right to reduce seats to 40 or withhold result/admission / conduct of JNVST if adequate accommodation is not available.
- JNVs are functional in 27 States and 08 Union Territories (665 functional JNVs as per prospectus).
Eligibility / Qualification
Candidates must fulfill all the following:
- District-specific admission: Candidate can apply only for the JNV of the district of bonafide residence while studying in Class V (2026-27).
- Class V study requirement: Candidate must be studying in Class V for the full academic session 2026-27 in a Government / Government Aided / Recognized school.
- Class III, IV, V requirement: Candidate must have studied and passed Class III, IV and V from Govt./Govt. aided/recognized school spending one full academic session in each class. Candidates who skipped Class III/IV are ineligible.
- Not eligible: Candidates who passed Class V before session 2026-27 or repeated Class V are not eligible.
- NIOS candidates:
- Must have NIOS ‘B’ certificate competency course.
- Must be a bonafide resident of the district where admission is sought.
- Candidates passing ‘B’ certificate on or before 31/05/2027 are eligible (if within age limit).
- Rural/Urban status for NIOS candidates is decided based on location of residence; rural certificate may be required if selected.
- Distance clause (if Class V school is in neighbouring district): Candidate remains eligible for JNV of district of residence if the Class V school is within 10 km radial distance from residence and verified/certified by NVS.
- Aadhaar requirement: Candidate should furnish Aadhaar number / Aadhaar authentication. If Aadhaar is not available, candidate may register using Residence Certificate of parent issued by competent authority; Aadhaar copy must be submitted at selection test/admission if selected.
