Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has invited online applications for Act Apprentice engagement under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Total 6,777 training slots are available across divisions/workshops; apply online from 20/07/2026 to 19/08/2026.

Age Limit

Note: The number of training slots is provisional and may increase/decrease as per administrative requirement.

Eligibility / Qualification

For Most Trades

Candidate must:

  • Have passed Matriculation (Class 10) or equivalent (under 10+2 system) with minimum 50% aggregate marks from a recognized board, and
  • Possess National Trade Certificate (ITI) in the notified trade issued by NCVT OR Provisional Certificate issued by NCVT/SCVT, and
  • Have the prescribed qualification and be in possession of ITI pass certificate/NTC/STC as on the date of notification.

Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Matriculation is not applicable to SC / ST / PwBD candidates.

For Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) & Medical Laboratory Technician (Radiology)

  • Must have passed 12th Class (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with minimum 50% aggregate marks
  • Must also have minimum 50% marks in Class 10 and Class 12
  • Merit for these two trades is based on Matriculation + 12th Science (PCB)

Mandatory Documents to Upload (Online)

  • Class 10 mark sheet and pass certificate
  • ITI provisional certificate / National Trade Certificate (NCVT/SCVT) (for ITI trades)
  • Final ITI mark sheet / consolidated marks of all semesters (or provisional NTC indicating marks)
  • For Medical Lab Technician (Pathology/Radiology): Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets & pass certificates (PCB)
  • Category certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) wherever applicable
  • PwBD certificate (if applicable)
  • Ex-Servicemen discharge/serving certificate (if applicable)
  • EBC certificate for fee exemption (if applicable)

Selection Process

  1. Merit List Preparation (Unit-wise / Trade-wise / Community-wise)
  2. Shortlisting for Document Verification (DV) up to 1.5 times of notified vacancies
  3. Document Verification (DV) by respective Division/Workshop/Unit
  4. Medical Certificate Submission as per prescribed format (Annexure in notification)

Merit Criteria:

  • For most trades: Average of Matriculation marks (minimum 50% aggregate where applicable) + ITI marks in the relevant trade
  • For Medical Lab Technician (Pathology/Radiology): Average of Matriculation + 12th Science (PCB)

Tie-breaking:

  • Higher age (older candidate) gets higher rank
  • If date of birth is same, candidate who passed matriculation earlier gets preference

Important: Candidate will be considered for allotment of only one Unit–Department–Trade combination based on merit and preferences. Once selected against a higher preference, lower preferences are cancelled.

Salary / Pay Scale

  • Apprentices will be paid stipend as per Apprentices Act rules.
  • Current minimum stipend for NTC/STC holders: ₹ 9,600 per month (effective from 11/09/2025).
  • Where 1 or 2 years’ exemption is admissible under apprenticeship curriculum:
    • 2nd year: ₹ 10,560 per month (10% increase)
    • 3rd year: ₹ 11,040 per month (15% increase)

Stipend rates are subject to revision as notified by competent authority.

No hostel accommodation will be provided during training.
