Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has released Centralised Employment Notice CEN No. 04/2026 for recruitment to various posts of Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent. A total of 3,993 vacancies are available across different RRBs, Railway Zones and Production Units. Eligible candidates with the prescribed three-year Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology can apply online from 14/08/2026 to 13/09/2026.

Candidates paying ₹500 will receive a refund of ₹400 after appearing in CBT-I, after deduction of applicable bank charges. Candidates paying ₹250 will receive a refund of ₹250 after appearing in CBT-I, after deduction of applicable bank charges.
The fee must be paid online through internet banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. Service charges will be borne by the candidate. EBC is a fee-concession category and must not be confused with OBC or EWS. EBC candidates must have a valid EBC certificate, BPL card, Izzat MST or another accepted Central Government poverty-alleviation document on or before 13/09/2026.
Age Limit
The age will be calculated as on 01/01/2027. Both the lower and upper date-of-birth limits are inclusive.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
- General age limit: Candidates born between 01/01/2009 and 02/01/1994.
- OBC-NCL candidates: Date of birth should not be earlier than 02/01/1991.
- SC/ST candidates: Date of birth should not be earlier than 02/01/1989.

Age relaxation is not cumulative. Where a candidate is eligible for relaxation on more than one ground, only the maximum applicable relaxation will be allowed. Candidates belonging to reserved categories who apply against UR vacancies will not receive community-based age relaxation.

Eligibility / Qualification
Candidates must possess the required educational or technical qualification from a recognized University, Institute or Board on or before 13/09/2026. Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed qualification are not eligible.

The qualification must match the post and the selected examination group. Candidates possessing more than one eligible qualification mapped to different examination groups may choose one examination group, subject to their post preferences and eligibility.
Depot Material Superintendent
Candidates must possess a three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline from a recognized University or Institution. Candidates with higher qualifications such as B.E. or B.Tech. in the same discipline are also acceptable in lieu of the three-year Diploma.
Nationality
A candidate must be a citizen of India, a citizen of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from the specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates requiring a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India must produce it during Document Verification.
Medical Standards
Candidates must satisfy the medical standard prescribed for the post opted for. The applicable standard may be A-3, B-1, B-2 or C-1, as specified in the post parameter table.

Candidates who fail the prescribed medical examination will not be considered for empanelment and will not be provided an alternative appointment. Candidates who have undergone LASIK or another refractive-error correction procedure are not eligible for posts requiring A-3 medical standard, subject to the conditions specified in the notification for B-1 posts.
Selection Process
The recruitment process will consist of the following stages:
- First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
- Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
- Document Verification (DV)
- Medical Examination (ME)
CBT-I is a screening examination. Candidates for CBT-II will generally be shortlisted at up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies notified against the concerned RRB. Candidates for Document Verification will be shortlisted on the basis of normalized CBT-II marks, merit and post preferences, with the number generally equal to the available vacancies.
Empanelment will be subject to successful Document Verification, prescribed medical fitness, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of character and antecedents.

- The minimum qualifying percentage is UR: 40%, EWS: 40%, OBC-NCL: 30%, SC: 30% and ST: 25%.
- The qualifying percentage may be relaxed by 2 marks for PwBD candidates in case of shortage against reserved PwBD vacancies.

- Electrical and Allied Engineering: Basic Concepts, Circuit Laws, Magnetic Circuits, AC Fundamentals, Electrical Measurements, Electrical Machines, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Switchgear and Protection, Estimation and Costing, Utilization of Electrical Energy and Basic Electronics.
- Electronics and Allied Engineering: Electronic Components and Materials, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Digital Electronics, Linear Integrated Circuits, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, Electronic Measurements, Communication Engineering, Data Communication and Networking, Computer Programming and Basic Electrical Engineering.

Salary / Pay Scale
Selected candidates will be appointed in Level 6 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix with an initial basic pay of ₹35,400. Other admissible allowances and benefits will be provided as per Railway and Government of India rules. Candidates may be required to undergo prescribed training, during which stipend may be paid according to applicable rules.
Reservation and Special Provisions
Vertical reservation is applicable for SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates wherever admissible. Horizontal reservation is applicable for Ex-Servicemen and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities.
- OBC-NCL certificates must be issued on or after 01/04/2026 and on or before the closing date of online application, and the candidate must submit the prescribed self-declaration during Document Verification.
- EWS candidates must possess a valid Income and Asset Certificate on the closing date. The relevant financial year for this CEN is 2025-26.
- EWS eligibility requires family gross annual income below ₹8 lakh and compliance with the prescribed land and property limits.
- PwBD reservation generally requires at least 40% benchmark disability, subject to post suitability and the provisions of the notification.
- Eligible SC/ST candidates who opt for the facility may receive a free Sleeper Class Railway travel authority for applicable recruitment stages.
- Candidates serving in Government departments, Railways or Public Sector Undertakings must produce a No Objection Certificate during Document Verification.
Important Instructions
- Candidates may apply to only one RRB through one common online application for this CEN.
- Multiple applications to different RRBs or multiple applications to the same RRB will lead to rejection of all applications and possible debarment.
- The selected RRB and the post or Railway Zone preferences cannot be changed after submission.
- Details entered while creating an account, including mobile number and email ID, cannot be modified.
- Candidates must keep their registered mobile number and personal email ID active throughout the recruitment process.
- Candidates must capture a live photograph during the application process; uploading a photograph of a printed or digital pre-existing photograph is prohibited.
- The signature must be written in running handwriting using black ink on white paper. The JPG/JPEG file should be between 30 KB and 49 KB, with minimum dimensions of 140 × 60 pixels.
- Electronic devices, mobile phones, watches, calculators, books, stationery, bags, food items and other banned articles are not permitted inside the examination centre.
- Candidates must bring the e-call letter, an original valid photo identity document and a recent colour passport photograph to the examination venue.
- Any impersonation, cheating, forgery, false information, use of unfair means or violation of examination rules may result in cancellation of candidature, lifetime debarment and legal action.
