State Bank of India (SBI) has invited online applications from eligible Indian citizens for engagement as Apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. A total of 7,150 provisional training seats are available across states and Union Territories. Online registration will be conducted from 19/05/2026 to 08/06/2026, and the online examination is tentatively scheduled for July 2026.

Application Fee

The fee and intimation charges are non-refundable. Payment must be made online through the integrated payment gateway using a debit card, credit card or internet banking. Applicable transaction charges shall be borne by the candidate.

Age Limit

The candidate must be aged between 20 and 28 years as on 01/04/2026. The candidate must have been born not earlier than 02/04/1998 and not later than 01/04/2006, both dates inclusive.

The maximum age of 28 years applies to Unreserved and EWS candidates. Relaxation in the upper age limit for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates will be applicable as per Government of India guidelines.

Vacancy Details

The training seats are provisional and may vary according to the actual requirement of SBI. Candidates can apply for engagement in one state or Union Territory only and must select one specified local language of the selected state.

Category-Wise Seat Summary

Horizontal PwBD reservation includes 92 Visual Impairment seats, 79 Hearing Impairment seats, 70 Locomotor Disability seats and 63 seats for other specified disabilities.

Candidates may choose any three preferred districts of the selected state during registration. District preference does not guarantee allotment. SBI may allot a training seat in any district of the selected state according to administrative requirements.

Eligibility / Qualification

• The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
• The candidate must possess a graduation degree from a recognized University or Institute as on 01/04/2026.
• The candidate must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding at least one specified local language of the selected state.
• Candidates who studied the selected local language in Class 10 or Class 12 and produce the relevant marksheet or certificate may be exempted from the local language test.
• A candidate must not have previously undergone apprenticeship training in SBI or any other organization under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
• Candidates who have one year or more of training or job experience after acquiring the required educational qualification are not eligible.
• Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen will not be engaged as apprentices and there is no reservation for them.
• Candidates with defaulted and unresolved loan, credit card or other lending obligations may be considered ineligible under the CIBIL requirements.
• SBI apprenticeship is a training engagement and is not regular employment or contractual employment with the Bank.

Reservation and Certificate Requirements

• OBC reservation is available only to candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer. The OBC certificate must contain the Non-Creamy Layer clause and should be issued during the period from 01/04/2026 to the date of joining.
• EWS candidates must produce an Income and Asset Certificate based on gross annual income for the financial year 2025-26 and valid for 2026-27. Candidates without the required certificate should apply under the General category.
• SC and ST candidates must produce caste certificates issued by a competent authority in the prescribed Government of India format.
• PwBD candidates must produce a valid disability certificate issued by a competent authority. Benchmark disability generally means not less than 40% of a specified disability.
• PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe may receive compensatory time of 20 minutes for every hour of examination. The candidate must arrange the scribe at their own cost and indicate the requirement in the online application.

Selection Process

Selection for engagement as an apprentice will be conducted through the following stages:

1. Online objective written examination.
2. Test of the specified local language, where applicable.
3. Medical examination.
4. Verification of eligibility, documents and information furnished in the application.
5. Completion of KYE formalities.

The merit list will be prepared state-wise and category-wise based on aggregate marks in the online examination. Candidates securing equal marks at the cut-off point will be ranked according to age in descending order.

Exam Pattern

Each test will have separate timing. There will be a negative marking of one-fourth of the marks assigned to a question for every wrong answer. There are no minimum qualifying marks for individual subjects. The minimum aggregate qualifying marks will be decided by SBI, with a 5% relaxation for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates.

Except for General English, questions may be provided in English, Hindi and the applicable regional language. Depending on the selected state, examination mediums include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu in addition to English and Hindi.

Local Language Test

Candidates must be proficient in one specified local language of the state selected for apprenticeship. The local language test will be conducted after qualifying in the online written examination. Candidates failing the language test will not be engaged as apprentices. Candidates who provide a Class 10 or Class 12 certificate showing that they studied the selected local language may be exempted from the test.

The local language test centre will be decided by SBI and candidates must appear at their own expense. SBI will not reimburse travelling expenses.

Salary / Pay Scale

Selected apprentices will receive a stipend of ₹15,000 per month for the one-year engagement period. Apprentices are not entitled to any other allowances or employee benefits.

Successful apprentices may receive weightage or relaxation in future recruitment of Junior Associates as per the prevailing SBI recruitment policy, subject to satisfactory conduct and performance, successful completion of the apprenticeship, passing the skill evaluation or trade test and obtaining the joint National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by SBI-NSDC or BFSI-SSC.

Training and Engagement Conditions

• The apprenticeship training period is one year.
• SBI has no obligation to offer regular employment during or after completion of the apprenticeship.
• On completion of the training period, apprentices will be relieved from their respective work areas.
• A state-category-wise wait list will be maintained for one year from the result date or until the next engagement exercise, whichever is earlier.
• Candidates can appear for the examination only once under this engagement project.
• More than one application should not be submitted. In case of multiple applications, only the last valid completed application will be retained and fees paid for other applications will be forfeited.
• No request for change of examination centre will be accepted. Candidates must bear their own examination and travel expenses.
• Candidates must carry an original photo identity proof and a self-attested photocopy to the examination venue. Acceptable documents include Passport, Aadhaar, PAN Card, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Bank Passbook with attested photograph, school or college identity card, or an identity certificate issued by a Gazetted Officer.
• Mobile phones, smartwatches, pagers, earphones, calculators and other electronic or communication devices are prohibited at the examination venue.
• No hard copy of the application, call letter or examination booklet will be sent by post.

Document Upload Requirements

Candidates must upload a recent photograph, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration in the prescribed format.

The handwritten declaration must be written by the candidate in English and must not be in capital letters. The photograph, signature, thumb impression and declaration must be clear and properly uploaded. Unclear, smudged or incorrectly uploaded images may result in rejection of the application.

Important Instructions

• Candidates must first register on the NAPS portal before applying through the SBI recruitment website.
• The online application is complete only after successful payment of the applicable fee.
• No hard copy of the application or documents should be sent to SBI.
• Registered email ID and mobile number must remain active until declaration of the result.
• Candidates must take a printout of the submitted application form and e-receipt for future reference.
• Category changes are not permitted after final registration of the application.
• Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification.
• SBI reserves the right to vary the provisional seats, change or cancel examination centres, and cancel the selection process partly or entirely.
