The examination fee can be paid through credit card, debit card, or net banking using the payment gateway available on the portal. Candidates should preserve the fee payment receipt. The application will not be considered complete unless the OTR, fee payment, and final application submission are completed within the prescribed timeline.
Age Limit
- The maximum age is 62 years.
- Age will be calculated as on 01/07/2026.
- Candidates whose age is more than 62 years as on the prescribed date will not be eligible.
- Category-wise age relaxation will be applicable according to Uttar Pradesh Government rules.

Horizontal reservation is applicable for women, persons with disabilities, and dependents of freedom fighters according to the relevant government orders and applicable reservation rules.
Eligibility / Qualification
General Academic Qualification
For most subjects, candidates must possess:
- A relevant or allied subject Postgraduate degree from an Indian university or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- At least 55% marks at the Postgraduate level, or an equivalent grade in a grading system.
- NET conducted by UGC or CSIR, or a valid SLET/SET qualification accredited by UGC, wherever applicable.
- Candidates awarded a Ph.D. under the UGC Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree Regulations, 2009 or 2016, including subsequent amendments, may receive exemption from NET/SLET/SET subject to the prescribed conditions.
Candidates holding a Ph.D. awarded before 11/07/2009 may also be considered for NET/SLET/SET exemption if the Ph.D. was awarded through a regular process and the prescribed requirements relating to external evaluation, open viva, research publications, and presentation of research papers are fulfilled and certified by the competent university authority.
For direct recruitment, the minimum required Postgraduate qualification is generally 55% marks or an equivalent grade. A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks may be available for eligible SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer, and specified disability categories. Eligible Ph.D. holders who obtained the qualifying degree before 19/09/1991 may receive relaxation up to 50% marks as per the notification.

- Military Science / Defence Studies: Defence and Strategic Studies.

Special Qualification for Fine Arts and Music Subjects
For Drawing and Painting, Music Vocal, Music Instrumental, Sitar, and Music Instrumental, Tabla, candidates may qualify through either of the following routes:
- A relevant Postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks and NET/SLET/SET or eligible Ph.D. qualification; or
- A traditional or professional artist qualification with a recognised professional achievement, a Bachelor’s degree, training under a reputed traditional guru or artist, Grade-B artist status in All India Radio or Doordarshan, ability to explain the subject with logical reasoning, and sufficient knowledge to teach the relevant discipline.
For certain specialised fine arts and music disciplines where UGC or CSIR does not conduct NET/SLET/SET or an equivalent examination, the relevant eligibility examination may not be mandatory.
Reservation and Category Conditions
- Reservation benefits are available only to eligible Uttar Pradesh domicile candidates in the applicable reserved categories.
- Candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh will generally be treated as unreserved candidates for reservation purposes.
- Uttar Pradesh government-prescribed caste certificates must be submitted in the prescribed format.
- For women candidates, caste certificates issued through the father’s side will be accepted as specified in the notification.
- The EWS certificate must relate to the prescribed period before the year of application and must follow the Uttar Pradesh Government format.
- Eligible persons with disabilities may claim reservation in the identified categories, including OA, OL, B, BA, LV, D, HH, LC, DW, and AAV, subject to post suitability.
- Dependents of freedom fighters include eligible sons, daughters, grandsons, and granddaughters as defined under the applicable Uttar Pradesh rules.
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of:
- Written Examination.
- Shortlisting for Interview based on written examination marks.
- Interview.
- Preparation of the final merit list based on written examination and interview marks.
- Document verification and verification of eligibility certificates.
- Allocation of colleges and appointment by the competent authority.
The written examination carries 360 marks, while the interview carries 40 marks, making the total selection score 400 marks.

Candidates must mark answers on the OMR answer sheet using a black ball-point pen. The written examination cut-off and candidate marks will be published on the Commission’s website after completion of the selection process.
Salary / Pay Scale
Selected Assistant Professors will receive Pay Level-10, with a pay scale of ₹57,700–₹1,82,400, along with admissible allowances and benefits according to government rules.
Important Instructions
- One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory before submitting the online application.
- Applications submitted through any mode other than the official online system will not be accepted.
- The application, registration, category, sub-category, date of birth, and gender details cannot be changed after final submission except during the prescribed correction period.
- The application form must be completed in English.
- The photograph and signature must be uploaded in the prescribed format and size. The signature should be in JPG/JPEG format, generally between 10 KB and 200 KB, with the prescribed resolution. The passport-size photograph should be between 30 KB and 300 KB with the prescribed resolution.
- Uploaded certificates and records must be in PDF format and within the prescribed file-size limits.
- Candidates should retain three copies of the submitted application form. Two sets of self-attested documents will be required at the interview.
- Candidates already employed in government or other services must produce a No Objection Certificate when required.
- Candidates must disclose pending or disposed court cases and criminal proceedings, wherever applicable.
- A false declaration, incorrect information, concealment of facts, or forged documents may lead to cancellation of candidature, debarment from future examinations, and other legal action.
- Candidates shortlisted for interview will be informed through SMS, email, newspapers, and the official website at least 10 days before the interview.
- Shortlisted candidates must bring the original documents and two self-attested sets of the required certificates, including educational certificates, category certificates, disability certificates, EWS certificates, freedom-fighter-dependent certificates, affidavit, character certificates, and other documents specified by the Commission.
- Eligible persons with disabilities may use a scribe according to government orders and may receive 20 minutes of additional time per hour. The candidate must make the required arrangements and complete the prescribed registration process in advance.
- No travelling allowance or daily allowance will be paid for appearing in the written examination or interview.
- The syllabus for the written examination will be available on the official UPESSC website.
