The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj has released Advertisement No. 05/2026 for the recruitment of 12,405 Assistant Teachers. The vacancies include 11,508 Assistant Teacher posts in urban-area primary schools under the Basic Education Department and 897 Assistant Teacher Associated Primary posts in aided schools under the Secondary Education Department. All candidates must complete One Time Registration (OTR) before submitting the online application. Information such as category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after final submission. The preference option for the two types of schools must also be submitted before the last date.

The fee can be paid through credit card, debit card or net banking using the online payment gateway. Candidates should preserve the fee receipt. The application will not be considered valid unless OTR, fee payment and final application submission are completed by the prescribed deadline.

The minimum age for both posts is 21 years as on 01/07/2026.

Age relaxation for the Assistant Teacher, Urban post is available as follows:
- Uttar Pradesh SC, ST and OBC candidates: 5 years relaxation in the maximum age limit.
- Eligible Uttar Pradesh persons with disabilities: 15 years relaxation.
- Ex-servicemen: Service period rendered in the Armed Forces plus 3 years relaxation.
- Shiksha Mitra candidates: Maximum age up to 60 years.
Only candidates meeting the prescribed age and eligibility conditions by the final application acceptance date should apply.

The number of vacancies may increase or decrease according to the requisitions received by the Commission and the concerned departments.
Eligibility / Qualification
Assistant Teacher, Urban
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in India or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government, along with any one of the prescribed teacher-training qualifications, including:
- Basic Teacher Certificate (BTC), including the two-year BTC Urdu course.
- Special BTC.
- Two-year Diploma in Special Education approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India.
- Four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
- Two-year Diploma in Elementary Education recognised under the applicable National Council for Teacher Education regulations.
- Any other prescribed elementary education teacher-training qualification recognised by the competent authority.
Candidates must also have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) conducted by the State Government or Government of India.
The notification states that the BTC course is currently being conducted under the name D.El.Ed.
Assistant Teacher Associated Primary
Candidates must fulfil all of the following requirements:
- A graduation degree from a university established by law in India, a recognised university, deemed university or recognised institution.
- BTC or D.El.Ed. qualification from an NCTE-recognised course.
- Successful completion of the Uttar Pradesh Government or Government of India Teacher Eligibility Test for Classes 01 to 05.
Candidates who do not possess the prescribed minimum qualification by the final application acceptance date will be responsible for the consequences of applying.
Reservation and Special Categories
Reservation will be provided according to Uttar Pradesh Government rules and the requisitions received from the Basic Education Council and the Secondary Education Department. The notification includes provisions for vertical and horizontal reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, persons with disabilities, dependents of freedom fighters and ex-servicemen.
Important conditions include:
- EWS reservation is applicable only to eligible candidates who are ordinarily residents of Uttar Pradesh. Candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh cannot claim Uttar Pradesh reservation benefits.
- Candidates claiming reserved-category benefits must submit certificates in the format prescribed by the Uttar Pradesh Government.
- A candidate claiming more than one reserved category will receive only the one relaxation that is more beneficial.
- Female candidates claiming caste reservation must submit the caste certificate issued on the basis of their father’s side.
- The EWS certificate must relate to the financial year immediately preceding the year of application and must be issued in the prescribed format.
- Disability categories and identified posts include VI, LI, HI, Thalassemia and other notified benchmark disability categories, as applicable to the post.
- Ex-servicemen means eligible personnel retired from the Army, Navy or Air Force after completing qualifying service and earning a pension, subject to the applicable rules.
- Dependents of freedom fighters include eligible sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters as prescribed under Uttar Pradesh rules.
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of the following stages:
- Written examination.
- Preparation of merit list on the basis of written examination marks.
- Document verification of shortlisted candidates.
- Submission of the prescribed affidavit and category certificates, wherever applicable.
- Allocation of schools by the Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council, Prayagraj, or the Director, Secondary Education, Uttar Pradesh.
- Medical fitness verification before final appointment.
The written examination marks will be used for preparing the merit list. If candidates obtain equal merit marks, the graduate percentage will be considered first, followed by the percentage in the prescribed training qualification. If the marks remain equal, the older candidate will be placed higher in merit.

Candidates must mark answers on the OMR sheet using a black ball-point pen. If more than one option is marked for a question, the answer will be treated as incorrect and negative marking will apply.
If the examination is conducted in more than one shift or multiple phases, normalisation may be applied as per the applicable Government and Commission instructions. Normalised marks will be used for selection.

Examination Centre and Admit Card Information
Examination centres will generally be allotted at district headquarters according to administrative requirements. A candidate may be allotted any examination centre. Information regarding the district of the examination centre will be provided approximately 10 days before the examination, while the detailed examination centre information will be available approximately 3 days before the examination through the admit card.
Candidates must appear only at the centre printed on their admit card. If a candidate appears at a centre other than the allotted centre, the answer sheet will not be evaluated and the candidature may be cancelled.
The admit card will be downloaded from the Commission website using the registration number or mobile number and date of birth after the Commission releases the download notice.
Written Examination Instructions
- Candidates must carry a black ball-point pen and use it to fill the required OMR boxes and circles.
- Blue, red or other coloured ball-point pens, fountain pens, gel pens, sketch pens, HB pencils and whitener are prohibited.
- Once an OMR circle has been filled, no change will be accepted.
- Eraser, nail, blade, whitener or any other method of damaging or altering the OMR sheet is prohibited.
- Dots, ink marks or any additional mark outside the relevant OMR circles may result in non-evaluation of the answer sheet.
- Candidates should practise filling the OMR sheet using the specimen available on the Commission website.
- No travelling allowance will be paid for appearing in the written examination.
- Eligible candidates with disabilities may bring their own scribe in accordance with the applicable Government Orders. Such candidates must register the complete scribe details with the Commission at least one week before the written examination. Eligible scribe users will receive an additional 20 minutes per hour.
Document Verification
Candidates shortlisted on the basis of written examination marks will receive information regarding the date, time and venue of document verification through SMS, email, newspaper notices and the official website at least 10 days in advance.
Shortlisted candidates must attend document verification and download the document-verification form from the Commission website. They must bring the original documents along with two self-attested sets of photocopies, including:
- Two self-attested copies of the online application form.
- High School marksheet and certificate.
- Intermediate marksheet and certificate.
- First, second and third-year graduation marksheets and degree certificate.
- BTC, D.El.Ed., BTC Urdu, Special BTC, special education diploma, B.El.Ed. or other prescribed training qualification marksheets and certificates.
- TET certificate.
- No-objection certificate from the employer, where applicable.
- SC, ST, OBC, EWS, freedom fighter dependent or ex-serviceman certificate, wherever applicable.
- Disability certificate, wherever applicable.
- Two copies of the prescribed affidavit.
- Character certificate from the last educational institution.
- Character certificates issued by two respectable persons.
- Affidavit regarding pending or disposed court cases, wherever applicable.
Failure to produce original documents and the required self-attested sets may prevent document verification. No daily allowance or travelling allowance will be paid for document verification.
General Conditions
- Applications must be submitted in English.
- Photograph, signature and declaration must be uploaded in the prescribed format and size.
- The signature must be uploaded in JPG or JPEG format, with a file size between 10 KB and 200 KB and resolution of 140 × 110 pixels.
- The passport-size photograph must be uploaded in the prescribed format, with a file size between 30 KB and 300 KB and resolution between 300 and 600 pixels.
- Certificates and documents uploaded with the application must be in PDF format, generally between 50 KB and 500 KB.
- Only the final submitted application will be considered valid if more than one application is submitted; other applications may be rejected and the fee will not be adjusted or refunded.
- Married candidates having more than one living spouse, or candidates who marry a person who already has a living spouse, will not be eligible unless the competent authority grants exemption under the applicable rules.
- Candidates must disclose information regarding any court case, conviction or pending criminal matter. Suppression or furnishing of incorrect information may lead to cancellation and debarment.
- The Commission’s decision regarding eligibility or ineligibility will be final.
- School allocation will be carried out by the concerned Basic Education Council or Secondary Education Department authorities.
