The fee can be paid online through Visa, MasterCard, RuPay credit/debit card, UPI or internet banking. The fee once paid will not be refunded. OBC, EWS and unreserved male candidates are not exempted from payment of the prescribed fee.
Age Limit
The upper age limit is calculated as on 11/09/2026, the closing date for submission of the online application.
- UR/EWS: Maximum 35 years
- OBC: Maximum 38 years
- SC/ST: Maximum 40 years
- PwBD: Age relaxation of up to 10 years, subject to the maximum age limit of 56 years
- Employees of EPFO: Up to 5 years’ relaxation in the upper age limit
- Central/UT Government employees: Up to 5 years, subject to applicable conditions
- Ex-Servicemen and eligible Commissioned Officers, including ECOs/SSCOs: Up to 5 years as per rules
SC/ST candidates may receive up to 5 years’ relaxation, OBC candidates up to 3 years’ relaxation and PwBD candidates up to 10 years’ relaxation, as applicable. The minimum age is not specified in the notification.

The post is identified as suitable for eligible PwBD candidates with 40% and above disability, subject to the suitability and reservation conditions specified in the notification. Eligible categories include blindness and low vision, deafness and hard of hearing, specified locomotor disabilities, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, spinal deformity, spinal injury and certain other identified disabilities.
Eligibility / Qualification
Essential Qualification
Candidates must possess a degree from a recognised University or an equivalent qualification.
Desirable Qualification
A diploma in any of the following subjects is desirable:
- Company Law
- Labour Laws
- Public Administration
The essential qualification may be relaxed by UPSC at its discretion for candidates who are otherwise well qualified, with reasons recorded in writing. Candidates must produce documentary proof of any equivalent qualification claimed.
Citizenship
A candidate must be one of the following:
- A citizen of India;
- A subject of Nepal or Bhutan;
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01/01/1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India; or
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India, subject to the required certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
Selection Process
The selection process will comprise the following stages:
- Pen and Paper Based Recruitment Test (RT)
- Shortlisting for Interview on the basis of the application and RT performance
- Document Verification / Scrutiny of Certificates
- Interview
- Final Selection and Appointment
The Recruitment Test will be used to shortlist candidates for interview. Candidates must meet the minimum suitability standard at both the Recruitment Test and interview stages when both stages are conducted. The interview carries 100 marks, with minimum suitability standards of 50 marks for General/EWS, 45 marks for OBC and 40 marks for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

All questions carry equal marks. If more than one answer is marked for a question, it will be treated as a wrong answer. Candidates must use a black ballpoint pen for writing and marking answers on the OMR sheet.

Salary / Pay Scale
The Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner post carries Pay Level 10 in the Pay Matrix under the 7th Central Pay Commission. The post is a permanent Central Board Group ‘A’, Non-Ministerial post, equivalent to Group ‘A’ of the Central Government at the corresponding pay level. The appointment carries a probation period of one year.
The post has its headquarters at New Delhi and carries All India Service liability. Selected officers may be required to serve in any part of India. The post is covered under the National Pension System with effect from 01/01/2004.
Duties of the Post
The Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner is responsible for work relating to enforcement, recovery, accounts, administration, cash, legal matters, pension and computer operations. Duties may include conducting inquiries, settlement of claims, general administration, maintenance of cash books, reconciliation of bank statements and submission of MIS returns.

Centre allotment will generally be made on a first-apply-first-allot basis, subject to the capacity of the centre. Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur are exempt from the stated ceiling. The Commission may change the examination centres or test date, and requests for a change of centre will not be entertained.
Important Instructions
- Candidates must create a Universal Registration Number (URN), complete the Common Application Form and submit the post-specific application.
- A valid and active email address must be provided because UPSC correspondence will be made electronically.
- Candidates should upload documents supporting their date of birth, category, educational qualification, disability, age relaxation and other claims.
- After final submission, withdrawal, correction, alteration or modification of the application is not permitted.
- Candidates must retain a printout of the finally submitted application.
- Eligible candidates will receive an e-Admit Card before the Recruitment Test through the UPSC website. No admit card will be sent by post or email.
- Candidates must carry the same photo identity document used during registration to the Recruitment Test and interview.
- Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, pagers, cameras and other electronic or communication devices are prohibited at the examination and interview venues.
- Face authentication, identity verification and frisking will be conducted at the examination venue.
- Eligible PwBD candidates may avail themselves of a scribe and compensatory time in accordance with the prescribed conditions and medical certification requirements.
- Candidates shortlisted for interview must produce the printout of the online application, original certificates and self-attested copies of the documents specified by UPSC.
