Bihar School Examination Board has announced the Bihar STET 2026 online application for Secondary and Higher Secondary teacher eligibility. Eligible candidates can apply for Paper I or Paper II from 18/08/2026 to 31/08/2026.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 21 years as on 01/08/2026. The maximum age limit is category- and gender-wise as follows:

Persons with benchmark disabilities may receive age relaxation as per applicable government rules. Other age relaxations will be applicable according to Bihar Government regulations.

Eligibility and Qualification

Paper I - Secondary Level

Candidates applying for Paper I must fulfil the prescribed qualification for the relevant subject. The notification provides subject-wise eligibility for Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Maithili, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Bhojpuri, English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.

Generally, candidates must possess one of the following qualifications, as applicable to the subject:

  • A relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree with at least 50% marks from a recognized university or institution, along with the required teacher-training qualification.
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree with at least 45% marks, where permitted under the applicable teacher education regulations, along with the required teacher-training qualification.
  • B.Ed., equivalent teacher education qualification, or another qualification recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), wherever prescribed.
  • For Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts, Dance and Special Education subjects, the specific qualifications mentioned in the notification will apply.

Paper II - Higher Secondary Level

Candidates applying for Paper II must possess a postgraduate qualification in the relevant subject with the prescribed marks and a recognized teacher-training qualification. The Paper II subjects include Hindi, Urdu, English, Sanskrit, Bengali, Maithili, Magahi, Arabic, Persian, Bhojpuri, Pali, Prakrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Home Science, Botany, Commerce, Computer Science, Agriculture and Music.

The main qualification requirements include:

  • A relevant postgraduate degree with at least 50% marks and B.Ed. or an equivalent recognized teacher-training qualification.
  • In certain subjects, a postgraduate degree with at least 45% marks and the prescribed teacher-training qualification may be accepted.
  • For Commerce, candidates with a postgraduate degree in Commerce, Accountancy or Business Studies may apply, subject to the specified eligibility conditions. Candidates holding an M.Com. in Applied Business Economics are not eligible for the Commerce subject.
  • For Computer Science, candidates may require a recognized qualification such as MCA, M.Sc. Computer Science, M.Tech. Computer Science, postgraduate diploma in Computer Science, or an equivalent qualification as specified.
  • For Agriculture, candidates with relevant postgraduate qualifications in Agronomy, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Seed Science and Technology, Soil Science, Horticulture or related subjects may apply.
  • For subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Commerce, Botany/Zoology and Mathematics, the relevant postgraduate-level subject qualification is required.

Candidates must carefully verify the subject-wise qualification, teacher-training requirement and equivalence provisions before applying.

Exam Pattern

The Bihar STET 2026 examination will be conducted through Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.

The examination duration is 150 minutes. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

A 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks is available to candidates belonging to SC, ST, Extremely Backward Class, Backward Class, Women and Persons with Disabilities categories, as prescribed in the notification.

Examination and Normalization

The examination will be conducted in CBT mode. If the examination is held in multiple shifts, the result may be prepared using the prescribed normalization process. The normalized score will be used for determining the candidate's marks and qualifying status.

How to Apply

Candidates should complete the online application process through the official portal in the following stages:

  1. Open the registration portal and complete the first-time registration using a valid mobile number and email address.
  2. Use the generated User ID and Password to log in.
  3. Fill in personal, educational, category and subject details carefully.
  4. Upload the recent photograph and signature in the prescribed format and file size.
  5. Pay the examination fee online through Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking or UPI.
  6. Preview the completed application form and verify every detail.
  7. Submit the application form and save or print the final submitted application and payment receipt.

Candidates should keep their User ID and Password confidential and should not submit more than one application for the same paper. Corrections after final submission may not be permitted except through the correction facility provided by the Board.

  • Matriculation certificate and marks sheet for date of birth.
  • Intermediate certificate and marks sheet.
  • Graduation certificate and marks sheet.
  • Postgraduation certificate and marks sheet, wherever applicable.
  • B.Ed., D.El.Ed. or other prescribed teacher-training certificate.
  • Caste certificate, where applicable.
  • Economically Weaker Section certificate, where applicable.
  • Disability certificate, where applicable.
  • Recent passport-size photograph.
  • Scanned signature.
  • Valid mobile number and email ID.
