Application Fee
The online application fee specified in the notification is ₹100 for candidates of all categories, including male, female and third-gender candidates. Bank charges, if applicable, are payable by the candidate.
Accepted payment methods are Net Banking, Credit Card, Debit Card and UPI. No other payment mode is accepted. The fee is non-refundable after successful payment. If the amount is debited but registration is not completed due to a technical or banking failure, the amount may be refunded through the Payment Gateway after seven working days.
Age Limit
The age is calculated on the basis of the candidate's date of birth recorded in the Matriculation or equivalent certificate, with 01/08/2025 as the reference date.
- Unreserved male candidates: 18 to 37 years
- Unreserved female candidates: 18 to 40 years
- BC and EBC male and female candidates: 18 to 40 years
- Transgender candidates: 18 to 40 years
- SC and ST male and female candidates: 18 to 42 years
- Eligible Bihar Government employees: Maximum age relaxation of 5 years, subject to completion of at least 3 years of regular service
- Ex-servicemen: Maximum age relaxation of 3 years plus the period of service rendered in the Armed Forces, subject to the actual age not exceeding 57 years on the cut-off date
Reservation and age-related benefits are generally applicable only to candidates having domicile of Bihar. Candidates from other states are treated under the Unreserved category.

An additional 2% horizontal reservation, consisting of 2 posts, is provided for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of eligible freedom fighters of Bihar.
Eligibility / Qualification
- The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
- Male, female and third-gender candidates are eligible to apply.
- The candidate must have passed Intermediate (12th) or an equivalent examination by 01/08/2025.
- Only one online application may be submitted by a candidate.
- Candidates claiming Bihar reservation benefits, including the 35% horizontal reservation for women, must satisfy the applicable Bihar domicile requirements.
- Candidates from other states must apply as Unreserved candidates.
Physical Standards
Height, chest and weight do not carry marks, but candidates who fail to meet the prescribed standards will be declared unsuccessful.

A minimum expansion of 5 cm is required. Chest measurement is not conducted for female candidates.
Weight — Female Candidates
Female candidates of all categories must have a minimum weight of 48 kg.
The physical standards and Physical Efficiency Test standards for transgender candidates will be the same as those applicable to Backward Class candidates, based on the gender recorded in the identity certificate issued under the applicable rules.
Result and Selection Details
The written examination is qualifying in nature and will not be used for preparation of the final merit list. Candidates securing less than 30% marks in the written examination will not be called for the Physical Efficiency Test.
Candidates are shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test, as far as possible, in a number up to five times the advertised vacancies in each reservation category, based on written examination marks.
The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the total marks obtained in the following three Physical Efficiency Test events:
- Running
- High Jump
- Shot Put
In case of a tie, preference is given according to age, higher marks, date of birth and higher educational qualification, as applicable. Further ties are resolved according to the alphabetical order of the candidate's name as recorded in the Class 10 certificate.

Each correct answer carries 1 mark. The examination is conducted at the Matriculation or equivalent level. Depending on the number of applications, the Commission may conduct the examination in multiple shifts or through multiple question papers, with marks normalized using the Equi-Percentile Method.
Physical Efficiency Test Pattern
The Physical Efficiency Test carries a total of 100 marks. Height and chest carry no marks, but the prescribed minimum standards must be fulfilled.
Running — Maximum 50 Marks

Candidates failing to achieve the minimum high-jump standard are declared unsuccessful. Candidates must qualify separately in all three events. A maximum of three attempts is allowed in shot put and high jump.
Additional Verification and Appointment
Before appointment, selected candidates will undergo:
- Medical examination
- Character verification
- Antecedent verification
- Document verification
The appointment authority for the post is the Commandant, Bihar Home Guard, Patna. The final recommendations will be sent by BPSSC to the Director General-cum-Commandant, Home Guard and Fire Services, Bihar, Patna.
The admit card for the written examination will be issued online to eligible candidates. Examination and selection-related information may also be communicated through the registered mobile number and email ID.
Important Instructions
- Keep the registered mobile number and email ID active throughout the recruitment process.
- The photograph must be recent, in colour, with a white background, in JPG, JPEG or GIF format, and between 15 KB and 25 KB.
- Separate English and Hindi signatures must be uploaded in JPG, JPEG or GIF format, each between 15 KB and 25 KB, on a white background.
- After final confirmation and submission, application details cannot be edited.
- Candidates should print and preserve the A4 acknowledgement of the completed application for future correspondence.
- The printed application need not be sent to the Commission unless specifically requested.
- Any false information, incorrect category claim, multiple application, invalid certificate, incorrect date of birth or gender details may result in cancellation of candidature and legal action.
- The Commission may complete the entire selection process in approximately six months.
- Married female candidates found pregnant during the medical examination for the run and Physical Efficiency Test will not be permitted to participate in those events and may be declared ineligible on the basis of the medical report.
