Age Limit
The age will be calculated as on 01/08/2025 according to the date of birth recorded on the Matriculation or equivalent certificate.

Bihar government employees who have completed at least three years of regular service may receive 5 years of upper-age relaxation. Ex-servicemen may receive 3 years of relaxation plus the period of service rendered in the Defence Services, subject to the prescribed maximum age condition. Other relaxations will be available according to applicable Bihar government rules.

An additional 2% horizontal reservation, covering 2 posts, is provided for descendants of Bihar freedom fighters, including sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters, as per applicable rules.
Reservation benefits are generally available only to permanent residents of Bihar. Candidates from other states belonging to reserved categories will be treated as Unreserved candidates and must select the Unreserved category in the application.
Eligibility / Qualification
- The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
- Male, female and third-gender candidates may apply.
- The candidate must have passed a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent examination from a recognized university by 01/08/2025.
- The required educational qualification and age will be verified using valid certificates.
- Female candidates must have a minimum weight of 48 kg.
- Physical standards prescribed for height and chest must be fulfilled. No marks will be awarded for height, chest or weight, but candidates failing the prescribed standards will be disqualified.

For male candidates, the minimum chest measurement is 81 cm unexpanded and 86 cm expanded for Unreserved, Backward Class and Extremely Backward Class candidates. For Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe males, it is 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded. A minimum expansion of 5 cm is compulsory. Chest measurement is not applicable to female candidates.

Exam Pattern
Preliminary Examination

Candidates must secure at least 30% marks in the Preliminary Examination. Candidates securing less than the minimum qualifying marks will not be eligible for the Main Examination. Candidates up to 20 times the number of vacancies, category-wise and according to merit, will ordinarily be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

A minimum of 30% marks is compulsory in General Hindi. Marks obtained in General Hindi will not be counted for preparation of the merit list. There will be a negative marking of 0.20 marks for every incorrect answer in both stages of the written examination.
For the Physical Efficiency Test, candidates up to six times the number of vacancies, category-wise and according to merit in the Main Examination, will be shortlisted. Candidates must qualify in the Physical Efficiency Test.

Candidates must qualify separately in all events. Up to three attempts are permitted for the high jump, long jump and shot put. Candidates who fail to meet the minimum standard in any event will be declared unsuccessful and will not be permitted to participate in the remaining events.
For third-gender candidates, the physical standards and Physical Efficiency Test standards will be the same as those applicable to Backward Class candidates.
Merit List and Qualifying Marks
The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the Main Examination, followed by category-wise reservation. The minimum qualifying marks for the final merit list are as follows:

In case of a tie in marks, the older candidate will receive higher merit position. If marks and date of birth are also the same, higher educational qualification will be considered. Where educational qualifications are identical, priority will be determined according to the English alphabetical order of the name recorded on the Class 10 certificate.
Result Details
The notification states that eligible candidates will be issued the written examination admit card online through the BPSSC website. Examination results, merit lists, qualifying status and subsequent physical test information will be published through the official BPSSC portal and may also be communicated through registered mobile number and email address.
Candidates should retain a printed copy of the completed application acknowledgement and keep their registered mobile number and email address active until completion of the recruitment process. The complete selection process may ordinarily take approximately six months.
Before appointment, selected candidates will undergo medical examination, character verification and antecedent verification. Appointment will be made by the prescribed appointing authority, the Commissioner, Excise.
Important Instructions
- Only one online application may be submitted by a candidate. Multiple applications will be rejected.
- A valid and active mobile number and email ID are mandatory for registration and communication.
- The photograph must be recent, in colour, with a white background, in JPG, JPEG or GIF format and within the prescribed file size of 15–25 KB.
- Separate English and Hindi signatures must be uploaded in the prescribed format and file size.
- Incorrect information, false documents, wrong category selection, incorrect date of birth or failure to upload the required photograph and signatures may lead to cancellation of candidature and legal action.
- After final confirmation and submission, application details cannot ordinarily be edited. Candidates may use the cancellation facility where permitted, but the previously paid fee will not be refunded and a fresh fee will be required for a new registration.
- Pregnant married women candidates found pregnant during medical examination will not be permitted to participate in the race and physical efficiency test and may be declared unsuccessful on that basis.
