Opening Overview
The Intelligence Bureau (IB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, issued the Security Assistant/Executive Examination 2025 notification for direct recruitment to 4,937 Security Assistant/Executive posts in Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaux across India. Application Fee
The fee consisted of an examination fee and recruitment processing charges.

SC/ST candidates, female candidates and eligible Ex-Servicemen were exempted from payment of the ₹100 examination fee. Ex-Servicemen who had already secured civil employment in Central Government Group ‘C’ posts after availing reservation benefits were required to pay the examination fee along with processing charges. Banking charges, wherever applicable, were payable by the candidate. The fee was non-refundable.
Age Limit
The age limit was 18 to 27 years as on 17/08/2025.
- SC/ST candidates: Upper-age relaxation of 5 years.
- OBC candidates: Upper-age relaxation of 3 years.
- Departmental candidates with three years of regular and continuous service: Up to 40 years, subject to Central Government rules.
- Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands and not remarried: Up to 35 years for UR candidates, 38 years for OBC candidates and 40 years for SC/ST candidates.
- Ex-Servicemen: Relaxation as per applicable Government instructions.
- Meritorious sportspersons: Relaxation up to a maximum of 5 years, subject to the prescribed conditions.

The vacancies were provisional and liable to change. Reservation for OBC, SC, ST, EWS and Ex-Servicemen was applicable as per Government rules and the relevant roster. Ex-Servicemen vacancies were to be allocated on a centralised basis and were not assigned to a particular Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau.
Eligibility / Qualification
Candidates were required to fulfil the following conditions:
- Must be an Indian national.
- Must have passed Matriculation or 10th class from a recognised board of education.
- Must possess a domicile certificate of the State against which the candidate applied.
- Must have knowledge of at least one local language or dialect specified for the selected Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau.
- Field experience in intelligence work was desirable but not essential.
- The post carries All India Service Liability; candidates willing to serve anywhere in India were eligible to apply.
- A candidate could opt for only one Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau. Applications for more than one SIB were liable to be rejected.
The Security Assistant/Executive post was not reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities because it was classified as an operational post.
Result Details
The recruitment notification prescribed selection through Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III. Candidates should refer to the official Ministry of Home Affairs website for recruitment updates, examination notices, result announcements and further instructions.
Selection Process and Examination Scheme
Tier-I Examination
Tier-I was an online objective examination consisting of 100 questions for 100 marks, with a duration of 1 hour.

There was negative marking of one-quarter mark for each wrong answer.
The Tier-I cut-off marks were 30 for UR, 28 for OBC, 25 for SC/ST and 30 for EWS. Ex-Servicemen were treated in their respective categories.
Tier-II Examination
Tier-II was a descriptive written examination of 50 marks with a duration of 1 hour. Candidates were required to translate a passage of 500 words from the local language or dialect to English and vice versa. Tier-II was qualifying in nature, and the qualifying marks were 20 out of 50.
Candidates were shortlisted for Tier-II at approximately 10 times the number of vacancies, subject to meeting the minimum qualifying cut-off in Tier-I.
Tier-III Examination
Tier-III consisted of an Interview/Personality Test carrying 50 marks. Candidates were shortlisted for Tier-III at approximately five times the number of vacancies, subject to securing at least 20 marks out of 50 in Tier-II.
The final merit list was prepared on the basis of combined performance in Tier-I and Tier-III. A waiting list was also prepared for future replacement, as per the applicable Department of Personnel and Training instructions.
Examination City Information
Candidates could select five examination city choices from the cities listed in the detailed advertisement. The examination city, once selected, could not be changed. In case of over-subscription or under-subscription at a particular city, candidates could be shifted to another city. Candidates could be accommodated in any one of their five selected cities for the Tier-I examination, but their candidature would be considered against the vacancies of the opted SIB only.
Pay Scale and Allowances
The Security Assistant/Executive post carries Pay Level-3, ₹21,700–69,100 in the pay matrix, along with admissible Central Government allowances.
Additional benefits mentioned in the notification include:
- Special Security Allowance at 20% of basic pay in addition to other Government allowances.
- Cash compensation in lieu of duty performed on holidays, subject to a ceiling of 30 days.
Important Instructions
- The candidate must possess the required qualification by the closing date, 17/08/2025, and the final examination results must have been declared by that date.
- Applicants were advised to read the detailed advertisement available on the Ministry of Home Affairs website before applying.
- Online applications and payments were accepted only through the prescribed portals and payment gateway.
- Payment could be made through SBI ePay using debit card, credit card, Internet banking, UPI or similar permitted modes.
- Candidates were advised not to press the back or refresh button after making payment and to wait for the server confirmation.
- SBI challan payments generated on the last date could be deposited in the bank up to 19/08/2025 during banking hours.
- Candidates were cautioned against fraudulent persons claiming to be IB officers or offering assistance in exchange for money.
- Candidates should rely only on the official websites of the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Career Service for recruitment information.
