Application Fee

The notification prescribes a post-wise examination fee and a processing fee. SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from the examination fee but must pay the processing fee.

Payment is accepted only through online mode using debit card, credit card or net banking. GST, wherever applicable, will be charged extra. The fee is non-refundable.

The minimum age for all posts is 18 years. The maximum age varies according to the post, as follows:

Age Relaxation

  • SC/ST candidates: 5 years.
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates: 3 years.
  • Women applying for PGT, TGT, Librarian and PRT posts: 10 years.
  • Regular NVS employees applying for NVS posts: 5 years.
  • Regular KVS employees applying for KVS posts: 5 years for General, 8 years for OBC and 10 years for SC/ST.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities: 10 years for General, 13 years for OBC and 15 years for SC/ST.
  • Ex-Servicemen and Central Government employees may receive relaxation according to the applicable rules.
  • Only one, whichever is higher, of the applicable age concessions will be granted.

Eligibility / Qualification

The required qualification depends on the post. Candidates must possess the qualification and experience by 04/12/2025.

Assistant Commissioner and Principal

Candidates generally require a Master’s Degree with at least 50% marks, B.Ed. or an accepted integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. qualification, and the prescribed experience as Principal, Vice-Principal, PGT or Lecturer in the relevant pay level. Knowledge of computer applications and working knowledge of Hindi and English are required for applicable posts.

PGT Posts

Candidates require a relevant Master’s Degree with at least 50% marks, along with B.Ed., an integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. qualification or an accepted integrated degree containing the B.Ed. component. Candidates must have proficiency to teach in Hindi and English. The subject studied at graduation and post-graduation level must correspond to the concerned PGT subject.

For PGT Computer Science, accepted qualifications include M.Sc. Computer Science/IT, MCA, M.E. or M.Tech. in Computer Science/IT with at least 50% marks, along with the prescribed teacher education qualification.

For PGT Physical Education, an M.P.Ed. with at least 50% marks is required. For PGT Modern Indian Language, candidates require a relevant integrated postgraduate qualification or Master’s Degree with B.Ed. and the prescribed marks.

TGT Posts

Candidates require a four-year integrated degree including the B.Ed. component, or a Bachelor’s/Honours Degree with at least 50% marks in the concerned subject and B.Ed. or an accepted equivalent qualification. Candidates must qualify CTET Paper II for applicable TGT posts and must be able to teach through English and Hindi.

The concerned subject must have been studied for the prescribed number of years or semesters. For example, TGT Mathematics requires Mathematics along with the prescribed combination of Physics and one of Chemistry, Electronics, Computer Science or Statistics. TGT Science requires Biology, Life Science, Botany or Zoology with the prescribed subject combination. TGT Social Studies requires any two subjects from History, Geography, Economics and Political Science, with History or Geography as one of the subjects.

Special Educator TGT

Candidates require graduation with at least 50% marks, an accepted Special Education qualification, CTET Paper II, valid registration with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and a valid CRR number. Proficiency in Hindi and English is also required.

PRT and PRT Music

For PRT, candidates require Senior Secondary/Class 12th with at least 50% marks and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, four-year B.El.Ed. or accepted Special Education qualification. CTET Paper I and proficiency to teach through Hindi and English are required.

For PRT Music, candidates require Class 12th with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Performing Arts. A diploma in music alone is not accepted.

Non-Teaching Posts

  • Administrative Officer: Graduate degree and three years of regular service as Section Officer in the prescribed pay level.
  • Finance Officer: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Commerce, or a relevant finance qualification, with four years of post-qualification experience in audit and accounts work.
  • Assistant Engineer: Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering and two years of relevant design and engineering experience.
  • Assistant Section Officer: Bachelor’s Degree and three years of regular service as UDC/SSA or equivalent.
  • Junior Translator: Master’s Degree in Hindi or English, or another subject with the prescribed language combination, along with a translation diploma/certificate or two years of translation experience.
  • Senior Secretariat Assistant: Bachelor’s Degree and three years of regular service as JSA/LDC or equivalent.
  • Stenographer Grade I: Graduate degree, shorthand speed of 100 words per minute, typing speed of 45 words per minute and five years of regular service as Stenographer Grade II.
  • Stenographer Grade II: Graduate degree and the prescribed shorthand and typing skill standards.
  • Junior Secretariat Assistant: Class 12th pass with the prescribed computer typing speed. KVS requires 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi. NVS requires 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi, or the specified vocational qualification.
  • Lab Attendant: Class 10th with a certificate/diploma in Laboratory Technique, or Class 12th with Science.
  • Multi-Tasking Staff: Class 10th pass from a recognized board.

Selection Process

Selection varies according to the post:

  1. Two-tier examination followed by interview: Assistant Commissioner, Principal, Vice-Principal, PGT, TGT, Librarian, PRT, Administrative Officer, Finance Officer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Translator.
  2. Two-tier examination followed by skill test: Stenographer Grade I, Stenographer Grade II and Junior Secretariat Assistant.
  3. Two-tier examination only: Assistant Section Officer, Senior Secretariat Assistant, Lab Attendant and Multi-Tasking Staff.
  4. The final merit for interview posts will give 85% weightage to Tier II and 15% weightage to the interview. The interview carries 100 marks.
  5. Candidates will generally be shortlisted for interview in a 1:3 ratio and for skill test in a 1:5 ratio.
  6. Candidates will have to submit their preference for KVS and NVS after the merit list. Allotment will be made according to merit and preference, and only one post will be allotted.

Exam Pattern

Tier I Examination

Tier I is a qualifying preliminary examination conducted in OMR objective mode. For posts other than NVS Multi-Tasking Staff, the examination is of 2 hours, with 100 questions and 300 marks.

For NVS Multi-Tasking Staff, Tier I consists of General Awareness and Current Affairs, Basic Computer Operation, English Language Competency and one other Modern Indian Language, totalling 100 questions and 300 marks.

Each Tier I question carries 3 marks. One mark is deducted for every incorrect answer, including marking more than one option. Unanswered questions receive no marks. Tier I is used to shortlist candidates for Tier II, generally in a 1:10 ratio.

Tier II Examination

Tier II is a subject knowledge examination conducted in a combination of pen-and-paper and OMR modes. The duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Tier II objective questions carry one mark each. A negative marking of 0.25 marks applies for every incorrect answer. Tier II is generally bilingual in Hindi and English, except for PGT Modern Indian Language and TGT 3rd Language, for which the concerned language is used.

Skill Test

  • KVS Junior Secretariat Assistant: English typing speed of 35 words per minute or Hindi typing speed of 30 words per minute, followed by a bilingual Computer Proficiency Test of 100 marks. Minimum 40% marks are required in the Computer Proficiency Test.
  • NVS Junior Secretariat Assistant: English typing speed of 30 words per minute or Hindi typing speed of 25 words per minute.
  • Stenographer Grade I and Grade II: Dictation for 10 minutes at 80 words per minute, transcription in 50 minutes in English or 65 minutes in Hindi, and typing speed of 40 words per minute in English or 35 words per minute in Hindi. A bilingual Computer Proficiency Test of 100 marks is also conducted, with a minimum qualifying requirement of 40%.

Selected NVS employees are eligible for admissible allowances, including a 10% special allowance for residential duties, except for Assistant Commissioner (Academics), NVS.

Result and Recruitment Updates

Recruitment-related updates, examination city information, admit cards, answer keys, shortlisting status and results will be made available through the official websites and the candidate application login. Examination city information is expected to be displayed 15 days before the examination, while admit cards are expected to be displayed two days before the examination. No hard copy or separate email/SMS is guaranteed.

For Tier I and Tier II objective examinations, scanned OMR answer sheets and answer keys may be displayed for two to three days. Candidates may challenge an answer by paying a non-refundable fee of ₹1,000 per question within the notified period. No challenge will be accepted after declaration of the result.

Important Instructions

  • Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must apply through the official CBSE, KVS or NVS websites.
  • A candidate may apply for multiple posts, but a separate fee is payable for each post. Within PGT and TGT categories, only one subject/post may be selected.
  • Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India, and requests for change of station or region will not be entertained.
  • NVS teachers may be required to reside on the Vidyalaya campus and perform residential-school duties.
  • Candidates must keep their registered email ID and mobile number active throughout the recruitment process.
  • Applications cannot be modified after final submission.
  • Candidates must retain the confirmation page and submit it with supporting documents during document verification where required.
  • PwBD candidates must satisfy the functional requirements of the post and produce the prescribed medical certificate. Eligible candidates may receive a scribe and compensatory time according to the applicable rules.
