Opening Overview

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has issued the information bulletin and examination guidelines for the EMRS Staff Selection Exam (ESSE)-2025. The recruitment covers 7,267 tentative vacancies for teaching and non-teaching posts, including Principal, PGT, TGT, Hostel Warden, Female Staff Nurse, Accountant, Junior Secretariat Assistant and Lab Attendant.

Application Fee

The fee is non-refundable and consists of an application fee and a mandatory processing fee. Female, SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempted from the application fee but must pay the processing fee.

Payment must be made online through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI. Applicable payment gateway charges and GST are payable by the candidate. Payment through money order, demand draft or IPO is not accepted.

Age Limit

The age limit is applicable as on 23/10/2025, after considering permissible relaxations.

Age Relaxation

• SC/ST candidates: 5 years.
• OBC-NCL candidates: 3 years.
• Women applying for PGT/TGT posts: 10 years.
• Persons with disabilities: SC/ST PwBD candidates 15 years, OBC PwBD candidates 13 years, and General PwBD candidates 10 years.
• Candidates with three years of continuous Central Government service in the same or allied cadre: 5 years.
• Persons ordinarily domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir during 01/01/1980 to 31/12/1989: 5 years.
• Eligible EMRS employees and certain other personnel working in EMRS: age relaxation up to 55 years, subject to the conditions in the bulletin.
• Ex-servicemen may deduct the period of qualifying military service from their actual age according to applicable rules.

Only the highest permissible concession is granted where more than one relaxation applies, and the maximum age ordinarily cannot exceed 55 years.

Vacancy Details

The vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease. Category-wise reservation includes UR, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen reservations wherever applicable.

Eligibility / Qualification

Principal

• Master’s degree from a recognized institution with at least 50% marks.
• B.Ed. degree from an NCTE-recognized institution with at least 50% marks, or an eligible integrated teacher-education qualification.
• Relevant experience as Principal, Vice-Principal, Assistant Education Officer, PGT or Lecturer in the prescribed pay level and service conditions.
• Desirable: experience in a fully residential school, proficiency in English, Hindi and regional language, and working knowledge of computers.

Post Graduate Teacher (PGT)

• Integrated postgraduate course in the concerned subject from an NCTE-recognized institution with at least 50% marks including the B.Ed. component, or a postgraduate degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks.
• B.Ed., eligible integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. or four-year integrated graduation qualification with the B.Ed. component, as prescribed.
• Subjects include English, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics, Biology, History, Geography, Commerce and Computer Science.
• Computer Science PGT candidates may possess M.Sc. Computer Science/IT, MCA, M.E. or M.Tech. Computer Science/IT with at least 50% marks.

Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT)

• Bachelor’s or honours degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks in individual subjects and aggregate, or an eligible postgraduate qualification with the required subject combination.
• B.Ed. or an eligible integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. qualification from an NCTE-recognized institution.
• Qualified Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Paper-II certificate issued on or before the cut-off date.
• TGT subjects include Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Computer Science, regional languages, Music, Art, Physical Education and Librarian.
• For TGT Mathematics, candidates must have studied Mathematics throughout graduation, Physics for at least one year or two semesters, and one of Chemistry, Electronics, Computer Science or Statistics for at least one year or two semesters.
• For TGT Science, the prescribed combinations of Biology/Life Science, Botany, Zoology and Chemistry must be fulfilled.
• For TGT Social Studies, candidates must have studied any two of History, Geography, Economics and Political Science, with History or Geography as one of the subjects throughout graduation.
• For regional-language TGT posts, the concerned regional language must have been studied as a subject throughout the degree course.

Female Staff Nurse

• B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing, regular B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized university or institute.
• Registration as a Nurse or Nurse Midwife with a State Nursing Council.
• Two and a half years of experience in a minimum 50-bedded hospital after acquiring the required nursing qualification.

Hostel Warden

• Four-year integrated graduation degree from a Regional College of Education of NCERT or another NCTE-recognized institution in the concerned subject, or a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institute.

Accountant

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from a recognized university or institute.
• Bachelor of Business Administration is not accepted for this post.

Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)

• Senior Secondary (Class XII) certificate from a recognized Board.
• Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi.

Lab Attendant

• Class 10 pass with a certificate or diploma in laboratory technique from a recognized Board or institute, or Class 12 pass with Science from a recognized Board or institute.

For all teaching posts, proficiency in teaching in English and Hindi is required. Candidates must possess the prescribed qualification and certificates by the eligibility cut-off date.

Result Details

• Tier-I is a preliminary qualifying examination. Candidates are shortlisted for Tier-II generally in the ratio of 1:10 against the notified vacancies.
• The final merit list for PGT, TGT, Hostel Warden, Female Staff Nurse, Accountant and Lab Attendant is prepared on the basis of Tier-II performance, subject to document verification.
• For Principal, Tier-II carries 80% weightage and interview/personal interaction carries 20% weightage.
• For JSA, shortlisted candidates must qualify the computer-based typing test. The typing test is qualifying in nature, and the merit list is prepared using Tier-II performance after qualifying the skill test.
• Candidates must obtain at least 30% marks in Tier-II for General, OBC and EWS categories and 25% marks for SC, ST and PwBD categories.
• Shortlisted candidate lists, interview schedules, skill-test schedules, results and related notices will be displayed on the NESTS website or through the candidate application login.
• The result will be prepared using the final answer keys after consideration of valid answer-key challenges.

Exam Pattern

Tier-I: Principal

Duration: 2 hours, without separate sectional time limits.

Tier-I: PGT and TGT

For PGT, Part VI consists of General English and General Hindi, 10 marks each, and is qualifying with a minimum aggregate of 40%, or 8 marks out of 20. For TGT, Part VI consists of General English, General Hindi and one regional language, 10 marks each, and is qualifying with a minimum aggregate of 40%, or 12 marks out of 30.

Tier-I duration for PGT and TGT is 2 hours and 30 minutes, without separate sectional time limits.

Tier-I: Hostel Warden and Female Staff Nurse

Duration: 2 hours, without separate sectional time limits.

Tier-I: Accountant

Duration: 2 hours, without separate sectional time limits.

Tier-I: JSA and Lab Attendant

Duration: 2 hours, without separate sectional time limits. A common Tier-I test is conducted for JSA and Lab Attendant.

Tier-II: All Applicable Posts

Duration: 3 hours. The Tier-II syllabus is subject-specific and is uploaded on the NESTS website under ESSE-2025.

Tier-III

• Principal: Personal interaction/interview of 40 marks.
• JSA: Computer-based typing test of 50 marks, with 20 qualifying marks.

Marking Scheme

One mark is awarded for every correct answer and one-third mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. Unanswered questions receive no marks. Marking more than one option for a question is treated as an incorrect response.

Pay Scale

EMRS staff are eligible for admissible allowances and a special pay of 10% of basic pay for performing residential duties. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India and are initially placed on probation for two years, which may be extended by the competent authority.

Answer Key and OMR Sheet

NESTS will provide a facility to download the scanned copy of the attempted OMR answer sheet and provisional answer key through its website. Provisional answer keys may remain available for approximately two to three days for submitting challenges.

Candidates may challenge an answer by paying a non-refundable processing charge of ₹1,000 per question within the notified period. Challenges submitted without payment or through email, letter or other modes will not be considered. If a challenge is accepted, the amount may be refunded after declaration of the result. The decision of the subject experts will be final, and grievances after result declaration will not be entertained.

Examination Instructions

• The examination will be conducted in MCQ OMR-based pen-and-paper mode for Tier-I. Tier-II combines objective and descriptive questions.
• The examination medium is bilingual in Hindi and English, subject to the regional-language provisions for applicable posts.
• Candidates must report at the examination centre two hours before the examination.
• Candidates must carry the printed admit card, one passport-size photograph and one valid original photo identity document such as PAN Card, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Passport, Aadhaar Card, e-Aadhaar or photograph-bearing Ration Card.
• PwBD candidates claiming a scribe or compensatory time must carry the prescribed disability and medical certificates.
• Compensatory time for eligible PwBD candidates is 20 minutes per hour of examination.
• Candidates must appear only at the centre, date, shift and time mentioned on the admit card. No request for change of centre or shift will be accepted.
• Mobile phones, calculators, electronic devices, bags, purses, stationery, printed material, food and water bottles are prohibited inside the examination hall.
• Any use of unfair means, impersonation, possession of prohibited material, communication with other persons, manipulation of documents or disturbance at the examination centre may result in disqualification, cancellation of result and further legal action.

Reservation and Posting

Reservation will be implemented according to Government of India rules. EWS candidates must satisfy the income and asset conditions, including family gross annual income below ₹8,00,000 for the relevant financial year. OBC candidates must produce a valid Central Government OBC-NCL certificate. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India and will have all-India transfer liability. Change of station or region will not ordinarily be entertained.
