Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued the official notice for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2025 for recruitment in various Ministries/Departments/Organizations of the Government of India across States and Union Territories. Candidates must have stenography skills and 12th pass qualification to be eligible.

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on 01/08/2025.

  • Stenographer Grade ‘C’: 18 to 30 years (Born not before 02/08/1995 and not later than 01/08/2007)
  • Stenographer Grade ‘D’: 18 to 27 years (Born not before 02/08/1998 and not later than 01/08/2007)

Age Relaxation (Upper Age Limit):

  • SC / ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD (UR): 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC): 13 years
  • PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service from actual age

Eligibility / Qualification

  • Candidate must have passed 12th Standard (10+2) or equivalent from a recognized Board/University on or before 01/08/2025.
  • Candidates must have skills in stenography to apply.
  • Nationality: Candidate must be Citizen of India, or Subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or Person of Indian Origin migrated from specified countries with intention of permanent settlement in India (certificate of eligibility required where applicable).

Selection Process

  1. Computer Based Examination (CBE)
  2. Skill Test in Stenography (qualifying in nature)
  3. Document Verification (DV) by User Department/Organization (after final result)
  4. For BRO (Border Roads Organization) posts (if applicable): Physical Efficiency Test / Physical Standards / Medical Standards as per BRO requirements

Dictation: 10 minutes

  • Grade C: 100 w.p.m.
  • Grade D: 80 w.p.m.

Result Details

  • SSC will prepare merit based on Computer Based Examination marks.
  • Skill Test is mandatory but qualifying; final selection is based on merit in CBE and post/department preferences.
  • Minimum qualifying marks in CBE:
    • UR: 30%
    • OBC/EWS: 25%
    • All other categories: 20%
  • Tie-breaking (if CBE marks are equal):
    1. Marks in English Language & Comprehension
    2. Marks in General Awareness
    3. Date of Birth (older candidate higher)
    4. Alphabetical order of name

Additional Notes:

  • No re-evaluation / re-checking of scores.
  • Tentative Answer Key will be released after exam; objections can be submitted online with ₹100 per question (non-refundable).
  • Posts carry All India Service Liability (selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India).
