The examination fee is to be paid online through credit card, debit card, internet banking, UPI or SBI e-Challan. The prescribed fee for the Lekhpal Main Examination is payable separately by candidates shortlisted for the Main Examination before downloading the examination admit card.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: 40 years
  • Age will be calculated as on 01/07/2025.
  • Age relaxation for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other eligible categories will be applicable according to Uttar Pradesh Government rules.

The notification provides the following category-wise vacancy figures in the detailed vacancy table: 4,165, 1,446, 150, 1,441 and 792 posts, aggregating to 7,994 posts. Horizontal reservation is also provided for eligible categories, including dependants of freedom fighters, ex-servicemen, women, persons with disabilities and outstanding sportspersons.

Eligibility / Qualification

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the Intermediate examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education or an examination recognized as equivalent by the Government.

PET Requirement

Only candidates who appeared in the Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025 (PET-2025) and were issued a PET-2025 scorecard can apply. Shortlisting for the Lekhpal Main Examination will be carried out on the basis of the normalized PET-2025 score. Candidates having zero or negative marks in the actual or normalized PET-2025 score will not be shortlisted.

Preferential Qualification

Candidates possessing either of the following may receive preference where applicable:

  • At least two years of service in the Territorial Army; or
  • A "B" certificate of the National Cadet Corps.

Selection Process

  1. Shortlisting on the basis of the normalized PET-2025 score.
  2. Written Lekhpal Main Examination.
  3. Document verification and verification of eligibility and reservation certificates.
  4. Final selection according to the written examination merit and applicable recruitment rules.

Candidates marked as Under Investigation or Provisional in the PET-2025 result may be permitted to participate provisionally, subject to the final decision of the Commission.

Exam Pattern

The Lekhpal Main Examination will contain 100 objective questions carrying 100 marks. The examination duration will be two hours, or 120 minutes. There will be a negative marking of one-fourth of the marks prescribed for the concerned question for every incorrect answer.

Syllabus Details

Part 1: General Studies

The syllabus includes the following subjects:

  • History of India and the Indian National Movement
  • Indian polity, governance, the Constitution, Panchayati Raj and local self-government
  • Geography of India and the world, including physical, social and economic geography, agriculture, horticulture, forestry, animal husbandry, population and urbanization
  • Indian economy and social development, economic planning, NITI Aayog, Sustainable Development Goals, government budgets, financial systems, agriculture, industry, trade, land reforms and infrastructure
  • Rural society and development, rural development programmes, rural health schemes, social development, land reforms and government schemes
  • Current national and international events
  • Science and technology, including space, defence, energy, nanotechnology, microbiology, biotechnology, intellectual property rights and digital rights
  • Environmental ecology, biodiversity, pollution, climate change, environmental conservation and disaster management
  • Data interpretation and analysis through graphs and diagrams
  • General Hindi, including grammar, vocabulary, word usage, sentence formation, punctuation, idioms and proverbs

Part 2: Computer and Information Technology

Important topics include computer fundamentals, information technology, internet and World Wide Web, hardware and software, input and output devices, internet protocols and IP addresses, IT gadgets, email, printers, tablets, mobile devices, MS Word, MS Excel, operating systems, social networking, e-governance, digital financial tools, cyber security, artificial intelligence, big data processing, deep learning, machine learning and the Internet of Things.

Part 3: Uttar Pradesh General Knowledge

This section covers the history, culture, art, architecture, festivals, folk dances, literature, regional languages, heritage, social customs, tourism, geography, environment, natural resources, climate, soil, forests, wildlife, mines and minerals of Uttar Pradesh. It also includes the state economy, agriculture, industries, business, employment, polity, administration, current events and achievements of Uttar Pradesh.

Important Instructions

  • Applications are accepted only through the online application system available through the UPSSSC website.
  • Candidates must possess the required educational qualification and other eligibility certificates by the application deadline.
  • Candidates claiming reservation or age relaxation must hold valid certificates issued in the prescribed format.
  • EWS candidates must possess an EWS certificate issued between 01/04/2025 and 28/01/2026, based on the income of financial year 2024–25 and valid for financial year 2025–26.
  • Candidates must download and print the submitted application form after successful fee payment and reconciliation.
  • Photograph and signature details uploaded during PET-2025 will be displayed automatically and cannot be changed during the application process.
  • In case of multiple applications, only the last finally submitted application will be accepted.
  • Examination date, time and examination centre details will be communicated through the examination admit card. Changes to the allotted centre, date or time will not be permitted.
  • Candidates must provide accurate information. Furnishing incorrect or misleading details may lead to cancellation of candidature and debarment from Commission examinations.
  • Unfair means, misconduct, impersonation or other prohibited activities may result in cancellation of candidature and debarment under applicable law.
