Opening Overview

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has released the examination scheme and syllabus for the Veterinary Pharmacist Main Examination 2025/18 under Advertisement No. 18-Examination/2026. The recruitment is for 1,308 Veterinary Pharmacist posts in the Animal Husbandry Department, Uttar Pradesh.

Only candidates who appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 and possess the prescribed qualifications can apply for the main examination. The online application process is scheduled from 14/09/2026 to 05/10/2026.

Vacancy Details

A total of 1,308 Veterinary Pharmacist posts are available under the Animal Husbandry Department. The notification also provides for horizontal reservation, including the following categories:

The final category-wise vacancy distribution will be governed by the applicable Uttar Pradesh reservation rules, government orders and departmental requisition. The number of vacancies may be revised as per applicable reservation provisions.

Eligibility and Qualification

Candidates applying for the Veterinary Pharmacist Main Examination must satisfy the prescribed eligibility requirements by the last date of application.

• The candidate must have passed High School and Intermediate examination with Biology from the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education or an equivalent examination recognized by the Government.
• The candidate must possess a Veterinary Pharmacy Diploma of 2 years and 3 months from a university or institution established by law in India.
• The candidate must be registered with the competent council or institution, wherever applicable.
• Knowledge of Hindi written in the Devanagari script is required.
• Only candidates who appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 and were issued a PET scorecard can apply for the main examination.
• Candidates with an absolute or normalized PET score of zero or less, including negative scores, will not be shortlisted for the main examination.

Age Limit

According to the Veterinary Pharmacist Service Rules, 2025, candidates must have completed 18 years of age and must not be more than 40 years of age in the applicable calendar year in which the vacancies are advertised. Age relaxation for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes and other eligible categories will be available as per Uttar Pradesh Government rules.

Selection Process

The selection process will be conducted through the following stages:

1. Shortlisting based on the normalized score of UPSSSC PET 2025.
2. Veterinary Pharmacist Main Written Examination.
3. Document verification and eligibility verification.
4. Final selection and appointment according to merit, reservation and applicable service rules.

Candidates will generally be shortlisted for the main examination in a ratio of approximately 15 times the number of advertised vacancies, category-wise, up to the applicable cut-off marks. The final merit and selection will be based on the prescribed written examination and subsequent verification.

Examination Pattern

The written examination will consist of one objective-type, multiple-choice question paper containing 100 questions for 100 marks. The duration of the examination will be 2 hours, or 120 minutes.

Negative Marking

There will be negative marking for every incorrect answer. One-fourth of the marks prescribed for the question, equivalent to 25%, will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Introduction to Livestock Management

• Basic terminology for the management of cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, horses, camels and pigs.
• Animal housing design and daily routine management, including grooming, washing, dipping and shearing.
• Care of pregnant animals and rearing and feeding of newborn calves.
• Basic methods such as dehorning and castration.

Introduction to Livestock Breeds and Economic Traits

• Identification of popular native, exotic and crossbred livestock breeds.
• Basic breeding systems, including inbreeding and crossbreeding.
• Maintenance of essential livestock farm records and farm economics.

Basics of Animal Nutrition and Health

• Types of livestock feeds and fodder.
• Preparation of balanced rations.
• Nutritional deficiencies and primary signs of poor health in farm animals.

Basics of Animal Physiology

• Elementary knowledge of the physiological functions of various organs of livestock and poultry.

• Routine sample processing and analysis of blood, urine and fecal samples.

Elementary Parasitology

• Identification of common internal parasites such as worms and flukes.
• Identification of external parasites such as ticks, mites and lice.
• Life cycles of parasites and common deworming schedules.

Fundamentals of Pharmacology

• Basic classification of veterinary medicines and their sources.
• Methods of drug administration, including oral medicines, injections and ointments.
• Drug dosage calculation, side effects and medicine storage rules.
• Correct labelling, prescription reading and medicine packing.

Clinical Biochemistry and Introduction to Gynaecology

This section will contain 15 questions for 15 marks and will cover the following topics:

• Information technology gadgets and their applications.
• Creation of an email ID and use and operation of email.

Part 3: General Information Related to Uttar Pradesh

This section will contain 20 questions for 20 marks. Questions may be asked from the following areas:

• History and culture of Uttar Pradesh.
• Art, architecture, festivals and folk dance.
• Literature, regional languages and heritage.
• Social customs and tourism.
• Geographical features and environment.
• Natural resources, climate, soil, forests and wildlife.
• Mines and minerals.
• Economy, agriculture, industry, business and employment.
• Polity and administration of Uttar Pradesh.
• Current events, achievements and developments related to Uttar Pradesh.

Application and Examination Instructions

• Candidates must log in using the registration number of UPSSSC PET 2025 and the OTP sent to the registered mobile number or email address.
• Personal details recorded in the PET application, including name, parents’ names, domicile information, category, date of birth, gender, marital status, mobile number and email address, will be displayed during the application process.
• Candidates should carefully verify all displayed details before submitting the form.
• The application fee may be paid through credit card, debit card, Internet banking, UPI or SBI e-Challan, as permitted by the Commission.
• After successful fee payment and reconciliation, the application form will be submitted and should be downloaded and printed for future reference.
• Candidates can check the application and fee status through the Applicant Dashboard.
• Application corrections are allowed only up to 12/10/2026 and only in the fields permitted by the Commission.
• If more than one application is submitted, only the application finally submitted will be considered and other applications may be treated as cancelled.
• Candidates must regularly check the official UPSSSC website for examination date, admit card, examination centre and other updates.
• The examination centre, date and time allotted by the Commission will not ordinarily be changed.
• Candidates must carry valid documents supporting age, educational qualification, category, domicile, disability or other claimed benefits whenever required.

Reservation Provisions

Reservation for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections, women, ex-servicemen, dependents of freedom fighters, persons with disabilities and outstanding sportspersons will be provided according to the applicable Uttar Pradesh laws, rules and government orders.

Candidates claiming reservation or age relaxation must possess the relevant certificate issued by the competent authority in the prescribed format by the applicable last date. Candidates who are not permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh may not receive the benefit of Uttar Pradesh state reservation and may be treated under the unreserved category, subject to the notification rules.

The Commission may revise the number of vacancies or category-wise distribution according to the latest reservation laws, government orders and departmental requisition. The decision of UPSSSC regarding eligibility, shortlisting, examination and selection will be final, subject to applicable rules.
